Title: Why different names of prophets in the Quran?
Post by: HopeSeeker on July 16, 2015, 06:20:33 PM
I recently had a discussion with a family member who says that Isa the is true name of Jesus, as are the actual arabic names of the other prophets. Is this true? If not why are their names different from previous scripture?

Salaam,
I think because the prophets where not Arabs, their names were according to their mother tongues but, since the Quran was being delivered to an Arab audience, the names were translated to Arabic. It's just like how the dialogues between the previous prophets and their people were also translated into Arabic in the Quran.

Dear HopeSeeker,

As-salamu alaykum

Please kindly note the following article which I feel addresses the gist of your question. In my humble view, sister Zara has also kindly presented an apt response.

WHAT IS A MUSLIM NAME? - A MISNOMER

I hope this helps, God willing.
