Title: The compilation of the Quran

Salaam all
Does the Quran mention anything about prophet muhammad having it written down or is the common narration that it was memorised by those close to the prophet and later compiled into a book without the prophet's supervision?
Is it true that for most given situations in the prophet's life a corresponding verse would be revealed to him? Did the prophet live by the commands as they were revealed and have them written as he went along (or as revealed ) or compiled all together at a later date? Does the Quran provide any clues
