Salam dear br. Joseph,
My question is one of translation. In verse 2:196, I see several different translations regarding the eid al adha sacrifice. Some versions translate hadyi as meaning sacrificial animal, whereas other translate it more broadly as a gift or offering. Are both interpretations correct or is one better? Personally, I am vegetarian and want to know whether I must sacrifice an animal or just "offerings/gifts" to the needy. Thank you.

Shalom / peace ...... from what I understand of brother Joseph's position.....>>>>>animal sacrifice is only compulsory for those completing Hajj.
