Title: How Did the Mountains Crumble for Prophet Moses?
Post by: Reader Questions on August 09, 2012, 07:45:13 PM
Question received in response to the article:

PROBLEMS WITH LOCATING GOD IN TIME, SPACE AND AS PART OF HIS CREATION
http://quransmessage.com/articles/timeandspace%20FM3.htm

Assalamu alaikum Joseph

The familiar notions of being, bound by space-time should not be attributed to God makes a lot of sense. I believe it is the correct position. Please can you kindly share your opinion on the event that occurred when Moses asked for permission to see God. Was it God's presence that made the mountain to disintegrate?

Wassalam

Salamun Alaikum,

For Prophet Moses, the conversation happened in 'real time' from his perception of his linear perspective. For God, time would arguably have no relevance. God knew of the conversation even before He created the Heavens and the Earth and put them into motion. In the diagram above, Prophet Moses would be at point 'A', where God would be outside His creation.

Now as God knew what Prophet Moses would be inclined to ask, God would have had the ability to affect the Earth's geology sufficiently to allow the mountains to crumble even before the mountains were ever created and before Prophet Moses would have ever asked the question (7:143).

However, the timing of the event would have been precise in order to respond to Prophet Moses's question. God did not force Prophet Moses to ask the question, he just accounted for it with His infinite knowledge and wisdom.

Here is a good animation which discusses dimensions quite well and our lean to view matters from our restricted perspectives.

I hope that helps, God willing,
