Salaam all,
Whenever I read about each person being responsible for studying the scriptures, researching and pondering over all the information to reach logical conclusions,I think about my grandmother. This is a woman living in her tiny mud hut, with no knowledge of how to read or write in any language. The only chapters of the Quran she knows are those she memorized for the purpose of salat. She thinks her religion is just about praying, fasting, and loving the prophet. Her only source of religious knowledge comes from whatever she can hear coming out of the speakers at the mosque during Friday sermons when they are lucky enough to have power.
Sorry this is long but my point is,she is never going to hear stuff about abrogation of verses or read lexicons to confirm the meaning of words. Will someone like her get a pass for their ignorance on judgement day?and will someone like me who has access to resources be judged more harshly?

Salam ZKAB90,

I just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one who feels like a hypocrite. Most times,I am convinced that my heart has been sealed. When I read answers to questions on this forum,it worries me that when I read the Quran,I don't understand it the way everyone seems to understand it.
When I wake up lazily to pray fajr,I wonder if I truly believe.I ask myself,If I truly believe in this Almighty,Powerful God,why don't I revere him constantly as others do?why doesn't my heart tremble when the Quran is recited?why don't I feel a connection when I pray?I also worry that what I think is right might just seem right to me because I am blind to the truth.

I am sorry that my long post doesn't have any answers for you.I just thought you might appreciate knowing you are not the only one who feels this way.

Hi Mia,
Here is a translation that seems clearer, hope it helps.

People, be mindful of your Lord, who created you from a single soul, and from it created its mate, and from the pair of them spread countless men and women far and wide; be mindful of God, in whose name you make requests of one another. Beware of severing the ties of kinship: God is always watching over you.

Salaam good logic,
I really like your statement about cleansing our minds.Of all the things you listed,I find killing the ego to be the most difficult.
May Allah help us all to achieve soul purification.

Salam all,

From my understanding of the Quran,God chooses who He guides. Are there specific things we as humans need to do to earn said guidance?

Secondly, when you observe children, you notice that some are more compassionate, caring, aggressive, helpful etc than others. If some people are born with an advantage over others in their character, should they then be judged differently, and is there anything that predetermines what kind of person we are born into?

Thanks.

Salaam all,
Ever since I found out that shirk is not just about worshiping man made sculptures,I haven't had a worry free day.I am so in fear of committing shirk, that I constantly replay all my thoughts and actions checking for any signs of shirk.
What are some of the common things in our daily lives that you would consider to be shirk.
Thanks.

Salaam all,

I just have a few questions about divorce.

1.It seems divorce is prescribed only for couples whose relationship is strained as a result of hatred, cruelty,or other similar problems. What if a couple gets along just fine but, have intimacy issues that cannot be arbitrated or solved. Can such a couple just mutually agree to separate?

2.The Quran teaches us to take action, pray, and hope for God's help.It also tells us to be patient and persevere when we have a problem. As good Muslims, should the above named couple just separate and hope for the best or should they be patient and just stick with it.

Thanks.

I think the verse is asking us to follow the best meaning of what has been revealed.

Prophets and Messengers / The first Muslim
October 24, 2015, 08:09:08 AM
Assalamu Alaikum,

When the prophets in the Quran say they are the first to surrender in verses like;7.143,6.14,and 6.163, are they just referring to being the first in their community?
