General Discussions / Does the Quran mention the shape of the earth?
« on: August 19, 2016, 05:08:59 PM »
Dear Brothers and Sisters in faith.
Assalamun Alaikum.

I recently came across a flat earth theory online and have been doing some reading on this topic. There are some "islamic" sites that says  the Quran  mentions numerous times that the earth is flat. mentions of flat, carpets, bed, extend, expanse are used to illustrate the shape  of earth.

I remember once reading that the Quran says that the Earth is Egg shaped (79.30 ) but opening up that verse, it is clear from the yusuf Ali translation that the word TAHAHA means Spread and not egg ort ostrich egg.

Now, i am not saying i believe the world is flat. But does the Quran actually clear this up in any other verses?

The flat earth theorist have some good arguments.

I have attached a link to a site i've been reading. there are numerous videos and explanations that are fun to watch yet mind boggling.

look forward to you guys' thoughts and ideas. :)

Salam All,

I have been wondering. The verses 22:47 and 32:5 mention that a day in God's sight equals 1000 years to us humans.

Does this only apply to the time in which Qiyamah is upon us?

If not, would that put God within the confines of space and time?

Look forward to some good explanations.

General Discussions / On Changing Churches to Mosques
« on: August 25, 2014, 11:19:53 AM »
Dear Readers,

As Salam Mualaikum,

Can anyone help me with locating information about converting churches into mosques?
Is this a permissible act? or is it not condoned according to the Quran?

Take Hagia Sophea as an example, We all know Sultan Mehmed II converted it during his reign. Does this mean that it is permissible?

Look forward to some good replies.

Salam All,

Can anyone point me to any article about hukum hudud? I've been looking through Br. Joseph's article list but cant find it.

Also, I have read some of Br. Joseph's articles on sex with slave girls. But can anyone show me if the Quran allows slavery?

Islamic Duties / What is the real meaning of sola/salat?
« on: April 01, 2014, 03:04:35 PM »
Salam All,

I came across a study done by Aidid Safar which says that Sola/Salat does not mean physical worship of God but a commitment/responsibility towards God.

I am not arabic, so any effort trying to search into what he says is a bit difficult. He has brought forth some examples of the word used throughout the quran.

Reason why i am posting this is because there are people on this forum with good command of arabic. and i would like to know if there is any merit in this study. here's the link to his page and others. http://aididsafar.com/  and http://mentalbondageinthenameofgod.wordpress.com/2009/01/03/sol-laa-commitments-is-not-ritual-prayer/

What do you guys think of this?

Dear Readers and in particular Bro. Joseph

Recently there has been an issue with the above mentioned subject in my beloved country, Malaysia. I am well aware of the article by brother Joseph and have read it many times with total agreement.

But there is something i think i need some help on.

1- Does God need muslims to protect the kalimah? or to go further, to protect Allah?
2- If christians use the word Allah in the bible, Malays are worried they might brainwash younger muslim toddlers to be trinitarians. to put it simpler, might pose a threat to the akidah.
3- majority of malay muslims have this idea that the God of the bible is totally different from Allah because of the trinity. does this mean that the malay muslims are softly committing shirk for believing that its not Allah the christians are committing kufr?

there might be many more questions i just cant think of right now, but i would certainly like for the members to comment.

Peace be upon all of you.

General Discussions / Pre-islamic arabia and the influence of hindhuism
« on: November 21, 2013, 01:02:22 PM »
Peace be upon you all,

I was wondering if anyone has came across some stories of the arab land being influenced by hindhus before the coming of islam? I have researched and read that King Vikramaditya did rule the arabic land especially mecca. and there are sanskrit inscribed into the kaaba's walls. a golden dish in the kaaba that has lord shiva's name( not sure if it is still there) and that the hajar aswad is the "shiva lingam" hindhus revere.

there are similarities carried out during the hajj and typical hindhu pilgrimage. Circambulating around their deities/kaaba 7 times. the shaving of the head. and the white garments.

there is more told about this and can be found by just googling islam and hindhu in a sentence. but i dont know what to make of this.

obviously, i dont find the way hajj which is carried out today to be legit. i figure, there are elements of  paganism, idol worship. (kissing of the black stone, throwing of rock to the devil etc.)

point is, does anyone find the ways the arabs carry out their islamic duties to be a bit similar to hindhus? and is there any legitimate factual study on arabia being ruled by a hindhu king before?

do share your opinions
