General Discussions / Ignorance
April 23, 2016, 01:02:39 AM
Salaam all,
Whenever I read about each person being responsible for studying the scriptures, researching and pondering over all the information to reach logical conclusions,I think about my grandmother. This is a woman living in her tiny mud hut, with no knowledge of how to read or write in any language. The only chapters of the Quran she knows are those she memorized for the purpose of salat. She thinks her religion is just about praying, fasting, and loving the prophet. Her only source of religious knowledge comes from whatever she can hear coming out of the speakers at the mosque during Friday sermons when they are lucky enough to have power.
Sorry this is long but my point is,she is never going to hear stuff about abrogation of verses or read lexicons to confirm the meaning of words. Will someone like her get a pass for their ignorance on judgement day?and will someone like me who has access to resources be judged more harshly?

Discussions / Guidance
February 16, 2016, 02:11:38 AM
Salam all,

From my understanding of the Quran,God chooses who He guides. Are there specific things we as humans need to do to earn said guidance?

Secondly, when you observe children, you notice that some are more compassionate, caring, aggressive, helpful etc than others. If some people are born with an advantage over others in their character, should they then be judged differently, and is there anything that predetermines what kind of person we are born into?

Thanks.

Discussions / Shirk
February 08, 2016, 11:41:31 PM
Salaam all,
Ever since I found out that shirk is not just about worshiping man made sculptures,I haven't had a worry free day.I am so in fear of committing shirk, that I constantly replay all my thoughts and actions checking for any signs of shirk.
What are some of the common things in our daily lives that you would consider to be shirk.
Thanks.

Discussions / Divorce
January 30, 2016, 09:21:26 AM
Salaam all,

I just have a few questions about divorce.

1.It seems divorce is prescribed only for couples whose relationship is strained as a result of hatred, cruelty,or other similar problems. What if a couple gets along just fine but, have intimacy issues that cannot be arbitrated or solved. Can such a couple just mutually agree to separate?

2.The Quran teaches us to take action, pray, and hope for God's help.It also tells us to be patient and persevere when we have a problem. As good Muslims, should the above named couple just separate and hope for the best or should they be patient and just stick with it.

Thanks.

Prophets and Messengers / The first Muslim
October 24, 2015, 08:09:08 AM
Assalamu Alaikum,

When the prophets in the Quran say they are the first to surrender in verses like;7.143,6.14,and 6.163, are they just referring to being the first in their community?

Women / Nullifying a marriage.
August 31, 2015, 01:24:51 PM
Assalamu alaikum,
According to verses of the Quran that discuss marriage and divorce,is there anything that says a marriage would be nullified if a couple mutually agrees to no longer have a physical relationship?

General Discussions / Dividing into sects
August 09, 2015, 02:27:53 AM
Salaam,

I was just a bit worried regarding the following verse:

006.159
"Indeed, those who divide their religion and break up into sects, you have no part with them in the least: their affair is with God: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they used to do"

Does this mean that as Muslims we have to break all association with the type of people mentioned in the verse.

General Discussions / Patience
July 17, 2015, 04:01:58 AM
Salaam,
According to the Quran,Allah loves the patient. If there is something bad in someone's life,as a believer,is that person supposed to try and fix the problem,or just be patient and accept it.I know that certain negative things that happen in our lives serve to make us better humans by increasing us in patience, humility, kindness etc.Do we run the risk of removing something from our lives that we are not happy with but that would have actually helped us in improving ourselves in the long run?
Sorry if I am not making much sense. It is just that all my prayers tend to be in general terms because I am worried about asking for specific solutions to my problems incase those problems turn out to be Good for me after all.

Discussions / Previous scriptures.
April 14, 2015, 04:17:35 AM
Assalamu alaikum.

1.Please can someone advice me about where to start if I wish to study the previous scriptures.

2.I am also confused about the Injeel and the Zabur. From my reading of the Quran I understand the two to be different scriptures revealed to different messengers but,I am told that the psalms of David is part of the Bible.Does this mean the two scriptures where merged together?

Thanks.

Islamic Duties / Praying as part of a congregation
February 19, 2015, 10:42:26 PM
Assalamu alaikum.

According to the Quran,we should maintain an intermediate tone during salat,17.110.My question

is,when praying as part of a congregation, does that only apply to the leader?and what does an

individual do if the leader is praying silently as some do.

Saladin alaikum,

Are there any verses in the quran that talk about a believer staying married to someone that believes in God but, doesn't really practice the faith as he should?

Thank you,and may God continue to increase us all in knowledge.

Salamun alaikum,

Please can someone help me understand if the following will make a marriage invalid or not:

1.If both the bride and groom do not attend the wedding.

2.If the dowry is spent by the brides family and not the bride herself.

Salamun Alaikum,
I have been studying an interpretation of the quran for a few months now and although I am still in constant fear of getting things wrong,Alhamdulillah I am glad I have access to websites like this one to aid my understanding.I Was just comparing myself to my poor old grandmother in her mud hut, with no access to a quran in her language, unable to read or write, practicing her faith in the traditional form as she was taught all her life, and I wonder if I would be judged more harshly because I have more access to knowledge than she does.

Discussions / Spreading Islamic Knowledge
November 24, 2014, 10:10:49 AM
Assalamu alaikum everyone,
Please for give me if my question has already been discussed before,i haven't read everything on the site yet.A few months ago i was going though a crisis of faith, and in my search for answers i came across this website.I started reading an interpretation of the quran because i was only able to recite the arabic version without actually knowing what anything meant.Alhamdulillah, with contstant prayers for guidance i am discovering what my faith is really all about.
I guess my question is,from the qurans perspective;will i be committing a grave sin if i do not share my newfound knowledge with my family and friends?I am afraid that a lot of my current views would be considered almost blasphemous by most of the people i know.
Thank you and may Allah continue to help all of us understand the Quran.
