Discussions / ilm ul rijal (Knowledge of men)
« on: July 05, 2016, 11:24:30 AM »
Peace to all

There is much criticism regarding the authenticity of the Hadith books. As we all know, Hadiths, most of them if not all, are shaped the biography of Muhammad. The authenticity of these Hadiths are based on ilm ul rijal, which is basically the biography of the narrators. The authenticity of the Hadiths are connected to the authenticity of the biography of the narrators. If the biography of the narrators are authentic, then there is a less chance of fabrication in Hadith books. Having that in mind, I would like to ask the following questions:

  • Who wrote or narrated the biography of the narrators?
  • Are they (Those who wrote or narrated the biography of the narrators) reliable?

There is a good article regarding the Arabic word al-Yawm here.

Peace to all

I would like to ask some questions here.
  • If there are three world (1 - This world, 2 - Barzakh, 3 - Hereafter) and not only two (1 - This world, 2 - Hereafter), then why the Quran constantly repeating "This World" (Dunya) and "The Hereafter" (A'khera)?
  • Where in the Quran it says that the barrier (Barzakh) is a world with a different dimension?

You can read about it in this Article:

This form is not necessary, the word itself has different meanings.

That verse is referring to a form of Jewish prostration (full-length prostration); as the verse states:"....Those who were given knowledge before it....", "those who were given knowledge before it" refers to Jews.

But brother...if..mark is mentioned for the companions of prophet...then what about the marks of the present people..because i have seen many people with marks on forehead...so..what does that mean?..i mean...mark on the forehead of the present people?..

The mark by itself has no significant, it is only a description. It is only matter of where one places his/her face during prostration; if the ground is soft there would be no mark no matter how much he/she prostrates, and if the ground is a little lumpy he/she will have mark. The mark is not important, the prostration is. The mark doesn't add anything to the reward of the prostration, there is no support for that in the Quran, a soft and smooth place would be fine to prostrate and avoid the mark.

General Discussions / Contextual Problems in Quran[55:xx]
« on: February 01, 2016, 07:55:49 AM »
Peace to all

In Q[55:1-13], the text is focused on human beings (Inns), no mention of JAn, and in Q[55:13], it immediately switches to both humans and JAn.

In Q[55:18-21], it talks about separation of two waters, which is a favor for humans and hardly a favor for JAns, still addresses both in Q[55:21].

In Q[55:22:23], what would be the use of pearl and coral for JAns? Because, it addresses both Inns and JAn in Q[55:23].

In Q[55:24:25], How do JAns sail in the waters and use vessels? Because, it addresses both Inns and JAn in Q[55:25].

In Q[55:56, 72, 74], talks about Houris, Undeflowered, again, addresses both Inns and JAn in the next verse.

Are JAns in need of water, garden, fruits, vessels, houris and other things which are visible things and not transparent? Or, there is a contextual problem here. Any explanation?

Thanks!

What is the role of Prophet Jesus in Islam?

The following articles may help:

The Virgin Birth of Prophet Jesus
Was Prophet Jesus (pbuh) sent to the Gentiles?
Understanding the Crucifixion of Jesus (pbuh) from a Quran's Perspective

Garden of Adam and Eve was created by Jesus.

That is not true according to the Quran.

Jesus descended to Heaven...

Quran says something about ascending, but it is not clear whether he was literally ascended to Heaven or the passage is figurative since the word "Heaven" is not used. Most likely it is figurative, rather than literally ascension to Heaven.

But God raised him (Jesus) up (in position) and closer to Himself; and God is all-mighty and all-wise. Q[4:158]

some people only saw his hands

There isn't any support for that in the Quran.

Jesus was crucified?

Quran only denies that Jews killed or crucified Jesus.

And for their (the Jews) saying: "We (the Jews) killed the Christ, Jesus, son of Mary, who was an apostle of God;" but they (the Jews) neither killed nor crucified him, though it so appeared to them (the Jews). Those who (could be anyone, including Jews) disagree in the matter are only lost in doubt. They (could be anyone, including Jews) have no knowledge about it other than conjecture, for surely they (the Jews) did not kill him...Q[4:157]

Read:
Understanding the Crucifixion of Jesus (pbuh) from a Quran's Perspective

everything else was similar to us and them..like...they said...no idol worship...God is one...we shall pray to one God only...etc etc

Christians believe in Trinity, which basically means that God is one in being and three in person. This concept of Trinity is very confusing and the high majority of Christians (like 70%+) hardly know what that means and no one can explain or articulate this concept logically. Quran denies the doctrine of Trinity.

O people of the Book, do not be fanatical in your faith, and say nothing but the truth about God. The Messiah who is Jesus, son of Mary, was only an apostle of God, and a command of His which He sent to Mary, as a mercy from Him. So believe in God and His apostles, and do not say 'Trinity'. Abstain from this for your own good; for God is only one God, and far from His glory is it to beget a son. All that is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him; and sufficient is God for all help. Q[4:171]

Does Quran say anything about the mark on the forehead of muslims...(which is mostly caused due to their constant praying..or may be because of prostrating)...

Yes, but only companions of Prophet Muhammad and not all Muslims.

Muhammad is the Prophet of God; and those who are with him are severe with infidels but compassionate among themselves. You may see them kneeling and bowing in reverence, seeking His favour and acceptance. Their mark is on their foreheads from the effect of prostrations. Their likeness in the Torah, and their likeness in the Gospel, is like a seed that sends out a stalk, then makes it firm, and it becomes strong and rises straight upon its stem, gladdening the cultivator's heart, in order to fill the unbelievers with dismay. God has promised those who believe and do the right forgiveness and a great reward.
Q[48:29]

What is adornment according to Quran?...I wear a chain...in which my husband's name is inscribed..so that...people would know that I am married...as many think that i m still unmarried...so i started wearing this chain..so..are ornaments not allowed for women to wear in public?...does adornment mean ornaments?...

See mia666's response.

Is piercing allowed?...like...we wear earings...so piercing on our ears allowed?

There is no problem with piercing of ears. As for slitting the ears of the cattle, Q[4:119], read this.

I didn't get that from the Bible. I got it from my own reasoning and the reasoning of others. I haven't even read the Bible beyond Genesis.
Yes, well, God IS perfectly loving. This understanding didn't come from the Bible. Again, I've only read Genesis. The idea that God is perfectly loving is simply the general understanding of this issue, and the fact that He does not love wrongdoers, doesn't mean His love is imperfect. It simply means that His love is reserved for those who deserve it. This, I think, is a better definition of perfect love.

By "you" I didn't mean you, rather the one (philosopher) who came up with these questions for the first time, and he/she got all of it from the Bible.

« on: January 28, 2016, 02:09:19 AM »

I've already explained al-munkar and Haram in the above diagram which simply illustrates the four types of deeds (al-munkar, al-mAAroof, Haraam, and Halaal) present in Q[7:157], and which clearly shows that anything can be both al-munkar and Haram at the same time. there is not any support for a binary view in the Quran, because a binary view would contradict Q[7:157], since it introduces trinary view.

This thread is going towards a debate, and I, personally, don't like debates and always seek to avoid engaging in a debate. Therefore, I will not post anything else here.

Thank you very much for your replies...:)...with respect to tax...m exempted to pay tax as a female...till my salary gets hiked..:)..so i dont have to pay right?...
We do give alms to the needy..thanks about that brother...:)...

If the government is not taking any tax from you, then you don't have to pay, you don't have any choice; but, you get a better chance to help the poor with that money, there is no problem with that.

As you stated that...in paradise...our wishes will be fulfilled...so does that mean tat...if i wish tat..i want my wordly husband to be husband in my hereafter too...and my dad to be forgiven...will it be fulfilled?...sorry for silly questions...

There are certain things that we don't know and God has declined to share the information with us. For instance, regarding the soul/spirit:

And they ask you about the soul/spirit. Say, "The soul/spirit is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little." Q[17:85]

Same applies to your father's fate. God says in the Quran: He punishes whoever He wills and He forgives whoever He wills. Your father is upset with God, and whether God forgives him or not is totally depends on Him. God's judgement is based on justice and mercy. If your husband believes in one God and perform good deeds, then he will be there with you.

and prashads are not meat brother...like...they give sweets...is it also forbidden to us?...even if we eat saying Bismillah?...

If the food is dedicated for idols, like they place that in front of the idols for blessing and do some rituals on it, then it's forbidden. If the food is just there and they give it as charity or gift, and not dedicated for idols, then there is no problem with eating it.

Note that quoting scripture doesn't work as a defense in this case, since the argument is not based on scripture.

I disagree for the following reasons:

Quote
The only reason something is considered good is because it is in accordance with God's will.

Where the above premise came from, if not from a Scripture, namely the Bible?

Quote
there is no reason to believe in a loving, kind God.

How would you know if God is loving and kind or cruel and unjust? Where did you get these "loving" and "kind" attributes for God, if not from a Scripture, namely the Bible?

Quote
Let's say that God's traits are kindness and mercy. If these traits are essentially deterministic....

Again, Christian understanding of why we should worship God, thus based on the Scripture.

Quote
If God is perfectly loving, then He should love evil people too, right?

God is perfectly loving? does it ring any bells? yes, Jesus, Bible and Christian understanding of God's love.

This is obvious that the person who brought up these question/arguments lived in a Christian environment and questioning religious beliefs of his/her surrounding people.

If those questions and what they are based on are not from any scripture, then they are no different than saying: "If cats have wings, then what would become of birds in the sky". If no one believes in the winged cats, then why would anyone care about fate of the birds?
