General Discussions / 39:53-54 and the limits of forgiveness
« on: June 28, 2017, 09:43:09 PM »
Assalamu alaikum everyone, especially brother Joseph,
I hope you are in good health inshallah :)
There was this post of brother Joseph in fb a few days ago regarding the verses 53 and 54 of surah Az-Zumar
https://web.facebook.com/joseph.a.islam/posts/965397073597420 , i commented a question and he stated that he'd be happy to discuss it further in the forum, rather than in post comments :)
What made me worried and a bit confused was on of brother Joseph's answers regarding the impossibility of reaching God's forgiveness after sealing of the hearts, even if you repent afterwards. I quote a part of his answer that i'm talking about: "If God has sealed the heart of a disbeliever IN THEIR LIFETIME because proof was completed on them and they REJECTED IT, they will arguably not be subject to God's mercy even if they continue to live long lives and accept the truth later."
Can a truth still enter a heart sealed by God? Even if it does, how can God not forgive them if they repented during their lifetime? To me it just doesn't resonate with his mercy and justice. If we take a look in the glorious Quran for example, God says 'dislikes'/'doesnt love'. The word ''God hates'' is only used for one kind of sinners: hypocrites, i.e the ones who know the truth and secretly plot against it. Yet, He states that if they repent He will forgive them.
Can you please elaborate it further brother Joseph?
Any input from other members is highly appreciated!
May Allah forgive us all,
Seraphina

Women / Love/being in love from quranic perspective
« on: March 30, 2017, 04:23:14 AM »
Assalamu alaikum everyone
Long time no see :D i wish youre all in good health and matters inshallah.
I wish I could get more knowledge on a subject hardly discussed. We hear people discus the requirements of marriage but we hardly hear them discuss love. Considering Quran is fully detailed, what does Allah say regarding love? Is love what makes us get married, or is getting married that gets us love? How do we know we are in love with someone and we wont regret in marrying him? does Allah give women any advice as to what to look for in a man and how do we know we are in love with him?
I think informing ourselves regarding these would save us a lot of unnecessary heartache in this world and from hellfire in the next one.
I expect opinions/advice from brother Joseph and all of you,
May God bless you all,
Sera

Salam to everyone,
I had a question for brother Joseph (and all of you), asked to me by another brother that wants to know better. If Jinn are created of fire and hell is also a place of fire, how can they be punished in hell? Bcs both people and jinn who go after Iblis will go to hell. Jinns are creatures of fire, so how can fire torment them?

May Allah protect you always :)

General Discussions / Re: Prohibition of non muslims from entering Mecca
« on: October 27, 2016, 05:30:48 AM »
Salam everyone,
Thank you all for taking time to reply, im deeply grateful to all of you. I hope I didnt overburden you :)
What I could notice is that entry to Masjid al Haram is forbidden, but that doesnt include the whole Mecca or the whole Madina.
As for Masjid al Haram, thats the house of God. And God, as the head of that house, has all the right to forbid entrance to the people who deny Him or worse, who waged war on Him and his believers. But people have no right to expand that order to the whole Mecca or Madina.
Allah knows best,
Salams :)

General Discussions / Prohibition of non muslims from entering Mecca
« on: October 22, 2016, 01:45:47 AM »
Assalamu alaikum everyone, I hope youre all fine,
Can anyone answer me why are non muslims forbidden from entering Mecca? I mean, i am aware of 9:28, but I didnt know Masjid-al-Haram includes all of Mecca! Has anyone been in Saudi Arabia? Is it true that saudis forbid non muslims from entering in Mecca?
Can brother Joseph or/and anyone please explain if this restriction in the Quran includes only Kaaba or all of Mecca, and if yes then is it only during hajj periods or during all year? As for Madina some say anyone can visit it, some say it is same as Mecca. What's the Quran's word on it?
God bless you all,
Your sister Seraphina :)

Women / Re: Iddah Reason

Salam Wanderer,
Yeah thats what i was saying previously. It is not iddat, it is a waiting/mourning period and when it ends she is free to do whatever she sees as the best for her life.
Thank God He has given us a time for ourselves, to mourn, to heal, to regain the ability to think clerly again, and then to decide what do we do next with our life. Thats usualy the natural process of someone who has lost her beloved one.
Who understands our needs better than the One who created us (with those needs) :)

Salam to all :)

Wanderer, the widow has to wait four months and ten days before being free to remarry if she wishes so. I dont know if its named 'iddat' as well.
Gahaiile, i dont speak arabic so i have no idea what you asked :)
Salam to both of you.

Well, for a marriage to be considered marriage, it has to be consummated. Thats what differs the marriage from all other types of kinship. If two people have been under nikah, lived under the same roof and still there was nothing between them strong enough as to consume their marriage, then there is not much left to be saved there :)
As for the widow, thats a period that gives her time to recover from the loss of her spouse, ponder over the future of her and her kids, and to deal with inheritance left from spouse (if any), and so on. Besides, in many countries widows are pressured from their family and close relatives to remarry shorlty after. The Quran doesnt force her to remarry, simply gives her time to think what will she do next. Thank God, in our religion marriage is reccomended but not compulsory.

Assalamu alaikum Ursimmy,

I know the question is not addressed towards me, but i hope you don't mind i answered.
Yours is an interesting question. I was asked of it many times, mostly by people who wanted to present Islam as an outdated religion, meaning its laws are not needed anymore, since for example for iddat we have pregnancy tests.
I would like you to bear in mind that for each and every law Allah gave us, there is always an infinite wisdom behind it, and the main purpose is the best for us. Who can know what's the best for us more than the One who created us? He knows how He created us so He knows what we need and what works best for us.
With regards to iddat, its purpose is not solely to see if a woman is pregnant or not. Even in ancient times there were methods to determine a woman's pregnancy before her belly could be seen. Its purpose is also the reconciliation of the couple. You see, as the three months go by, as the loss of each other is inevitable, the couple can realize they love each other and can't live without each other. It's the human nature to realize what he/she lost only after the loss. If that is the case, you have three months to recover your loss :) On the other side, a pregnant woman's iddat is until she gives birth. The happiness and love a kid brings to a couple's life can make them reconsider their divorce and be even happier than before, now that they have a kid.
Only in the last century (if i'm not mistaken) can you find in the western countries the laws of divorce that also require husband and wife to live under the same roof for some months before the divorce is finalized, so that the couple can see if they can still work things out. In west such a custom is relatively new, but in the Quran it was ordained 1500 years ago :) no matter how many laws people try, in the end they always come to realize that His laws are the best way of life, and the best way of resolving matters.

I hope i was of help,
Your sister Seraphina

Selam aleikum Ilker,
A similar question was asked by me and by another reader some time ago. Use the search engine for the posts "validity of nikaah" and "nikaah for the purposes of courting", and see b.Joseph's responses there (and others).  I will post the links as soon as i am able to.
Kind regards, Seraphina

Assalamu alaykum,
I had no time to read in detail each and every post (to be honest), but let me make something clear here. The prophecies (foretelling future events) and the laws to abide by (what is allowed, what is compulsory, what is forbidden, and so on), are two very different things. The Quran is crystal-clear in the point that prophet had no right to make things halal or haram, or to invent new laws that are not given from Allah directly (like the laws in the Quran). That is undisputed.
In regards to prophecies, as far as I've seen, when Allah talks about the unseen, it includes the past, present and future in total and in detail. This kind of the unseen is with Him alone and with no other of his creations. But pieces of the unseen regarding to the future have been given to prophets he sent, so prophet Muhammad might not have been exception. Just because prophet was informed of a thing or two of the future doesnt mean he had the knowledge of the 'unseen' in general, as mentioned in the Quran.
Forgive me any mistakes, Allah knows best.
Your sister Seraphina :)
