Peace to you Joseph,

I just wanted to write a quick email to say thank you for all your efforts and hard work in bringing the sincerest efforts towards ascertaining truth in the most important matter in our lives.

May God reward you handsomely in whichever way - 'Allahu'alm'

I have had the same inclinations towards this understanding since I reverted 5 years ago and have felt increasingly alienated from my local muslim community because the focus is usually on shallow issues and I cannot seem to engage anyone in any serious debate which involves tackling the veracity of learned traditions...

I thought I was alone, but you seem to share, thanks to your extensive and honest research, very similar sentiments, which I had also gained through a similar treasure hunt for truth.

I thank you because, losing faith watching chaos unfold - especially with Isis, my iman was fading somewhat.

Now it is virtually fully restored.

May God help and protect you in your endeavours. Keep on writing! Your opinions are absolutely brilliant

Salaam brother Joseph Islam,

Allow me, also, to briefly commend you on/for the many articles you've written on your main site ( http://l.facebook.com/l/OAQEIGGO-AQHeJyhkacNA2XKATwTJj2bNMtvoeFsOEvBaeA/quransmessage.com/articles/articles%2520FM3.htm). The knowledge, understanding and wisdom of the Quran you displays on all of your articles is truly amazing; as is the way/style you conduct yourself in your many debates with respected individuals. May Allah increase you (and all of us) in knowledge and understanding of the Quran; and may your site become accessible to my of our dear Muslim brothers/sister whom I believe could really benefit from it. I could go on and on commending the you but I believe you get the point.

You truly are a Muslim to be embodied after.

your brother in Islam,

Discussions / Islam's approach to hermeneutics
« on: May 17, 2015, 05:47:32 AM »
Clearly the Qur'an isn't a self sufficient text, no text is regardless of what it might state or what people might like to believe.

The problem with most Quranists in my experience is they tend towards a rather undeveloped and naive hermeneutics.

The lack of a sophisticated hermeneutic is also met with a lack of an ability to explain when and how everything went wrong within the Muslim community. The Christian parallel would be the doctrine of the great apostacy held by some protestants.

Aside from Joseph Islam, I've yet to run into many Quranists online with well developed critiques of mainstream Islam's approach to hermeneutics. Further rather than merely offering a negative critique of thorny issues, Joseph Islam provides a productive and positive account of to understand the many topics he has touched on.

I think more work like Joseph's is required online.

What I am interested in seeing is a more maximalist Quranist approach rather than the reductive tact often taken which ends up sounding not unlike some contemporary new age cliche. Or in other words a more radical and barren Orientalist approach revisted.

Dear brother Joseph Islam,

It was so uplifting to find your website with its high caliber of thoroughgoing research and your balanced approach to studying the Quran. This subject is also of central importance to my life, although I've had much conflict (in my personal life as a wife and mother in a Sunni family) as a result of my own studies and conclusions, which are very similar to yours.

Other "Quranist" websites take certain rather extreme interpretations and there's no arguing with them, but yours is obviously quite open and eloquent, and your response to questions on your forum is about as high-level, knowledgeable and yet not egocentric as one could possibly imagine. Like you, I don't consider myself part of any sect or group, but simply studying the Quran in an attempt to get at he truth. Your work stands out as a treasure in this field, with absolutely thrillingly excellent arguments and discussions/ analysis using the Quran as a source. I would be interested to know if you prefer any particular translation. I've read your remarks regarding translation, but hoped you might be using one in particular at this time.

Your site will be a huge help in my life. Thank you for all your work.

Salaam,

Salamun alaykum Joseph!

Wonderful scholarship, indeed, at arriving at the Truth, solely with the Qur'an!

Of late I have taken the same approach, and I pray to Allah to cleanse me from all man-made additions to Islam.

His Nur remains

Assalamu Alaikum brother Joseph,

I have been reading your articles for quite some time now and am really impressed with your in-depth analysis of the Qur'an. Through you, I have been guided to the truth and am extremely grateful to you. I pray to God that He may bless you in this present life and in the Hereafter.

Having been inspired from your research, I decided to dive in myself by learning the Arabic of the Qur'an. I have already read your article on suggestions for studying the Qur'an but cannot seem to find a starting point for learning that Arabic. I have searched for numerous books but don't know what to look for.

I already know how to read arabic and am reading an english translation the second time. Apart from that, I am also quite fluent in Urdu which kind of gives me a feel and a little understanding of arabic.

Could you kindly suggest me some books from which I could start my journey of learning the Qur'anic Arabic? I would be very grateful if you could help me out.

Thanks and may God bless you.

Dear Brother Joseph

I just found your Web-site today ,and i already downloaded all of your PDF documents which i am sure will help me for my understanding of what i was born for, being a servant of God.

For all the work that you have done ,i THANK YOU, for your valuable humility.

(Quran 10:35 , Say, "Are there of your 'partners' any who guides to the truth?" Say, "Allah guides to the truth. So is He who guides to the truth more worthy to be followed or he who guides not unless he is guided? Then what is [wrong] with you - how do you judge?"

In my experience since I abandoned the hadiths, I learned that the main obstacle in the acceptance of the message of the quran is that people can't understand that they are the ones who should learn their religion and not some else doing the work for them , anyway, it is God who guides people .

Again , thank you , and may God answer all your prayers .

Dear brother Joseph

I downloaded all the PDF documents of your articles from your web site and i must admit i am very much benefited from them i am from [removed] and i realized i (my religious belief and all related thoughts) was shaped not only based quran but mainly by customs and secondary sources which i was surrounded by. I would like to learn and want all the information i learnt which constitutes my religion to be based on solid understanding of quran and in that regard i find your site very informative.

Let me share a personal memory of myself with you which was not very nice from the starting of the incident.

Maybe nearly 3 or 4 months ago accidentally i stumbled upon your site and read the article of uniqueness of prophet Muhammed peace be upon him and i was alarmed as soon as you stated quran does not confirm such belief which is accepted among the main stream of muslims (ahli sunna) then automatically i wanted to challenge you and to show you how you were wrong by sending you mail after mail then you replied you don't want to be disturbed by mails in a reprimanding way stating that i actually was who sent the mails and you didn't have time to argue over e-mail. Anyway, then i stopped reading your web site because was disappointed. But i continued to read from other sources then slowly and slowly i realized there was something wrong regarding the secondary sources for example when realized how many different transcriptions of quran existed and how they were commented with parenthesis to change the meaning to justify the writer's belief (such an example was in Suratul Abasa (blind) claiming first ayats referred to a musrek not the prophet holding the opinion that prophets are without err) i remembered your site and returned back downloading all pdf documents in the article section.

I keep reading but also i wanted to join the forum in case i may ask a question or may share my opinion.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts online .

Salaam!

I wanted to say that I have found your site The Quran and its Message really helpful. Your articles provide very useful information. I agree with many of the articles and even where I may disagree I still find your articles to be helpful in providing an alternative viewpoint. You’ve covered many topics and I find dedication to Allah swt and the Message He bestowed on us in your website. I find that very touching as believers we are to devote. We all do things in different ways but devotion to Allah swt is central.

Thank you for your website. It’s confirmed areas for me and been enlightening. May Allah’s swt Love always warm your soul and may His Light always guide your way. May He reward you to the best of your deeds!

I would like to thank you for your work. I have stumbled upon your website before two weeks, and i must say that I have been very blessed. I have been thinking the same way for several years even though my beliefs differ from the majority of muslims around me. After reading a few articles of yours, I was relieved and happy and a rush of emotions came to me and found myself addicted to your articles and wanting to learn more and more. Everything made sense to me. I seriously can't be any happier.
