General Discussions / Linking 4:119 and 25:44 ?
« on: October 05, 2012, 04:34:32 AM »
Salamun alaikum

4:119
"I will mislead them, and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and to deface the (fair) nature created by God." Whoever, forsaking God, takes Satan for a friend, has of a surety suffered a loss that is
manifest.

25:44
"Or do you think that most of them listen or use their intellect . They are only like cattle, nay, they are more astray from the way.

Can it be interpreted that word cattle  used in 4:119 is actually referring to people who follow their traditions blindly and give those traditions extra importance in their life without using  their reason ?

I have seen some male muslims who believe that some scholar will protect them on the day of judgement and then they become their 'Mureed' , after that they get their ear pierced and start wearing a ring in one ear.

And there are other example too from among muslims and non muslims here where piercing ears is given too much importance , not piercing of ear becomes a Taboo.

Sometimes i feel uncomfortable before starting the prayer because of this doubt in my mind.

Why should we bow and prostrate in a specific direction which directs towards a house built up of stones/bricks?

General Discussions / Why testimony of one men is equal to that of 2 womens?
« on: September 19, 2012, 10:36:50 PM »
Pickthall's translation 2:282 (part) -
.....And call to witness, from among your men,
two witnesses. And if two men be not (at hand) then a man and two women, of
such as ye approve as witnesses, so that if the one erreth (through
forgetfulness) the other will remember. And the witnesses must not refuse
when they are summoned......

Salamun alaikum All

Yusuf Ali -
If only they had been content with what Allah and His Messenger gave them, and had said, "Sufficient unto us is Allah! Allah and His Messenger will soon give us of His bounty: to Allah do we turn our hopes!" (that would have been the right course).

Pickthall-
(How much more seemly) had they been content with that which Allah and His messenger had given them and had said: Allah sufficeth us. Allah will give us of His bounty, and (also) His messenger. Unto Allah we are suppliants.

Abdel Haleem-
If only they would be content with what God and His Messenger have given them, and say, ‘God is enough for us- He will give us some of His bounty and so will His Messenger- to God alone we turn in hope.’

Please Explain me Does it means  '' Allah and his messenger will give us bounty'' or ''Allah will give us bounty , and his messenger'' ?

If it means Allah and his messenger will give us bounty , Can it be used to explain that ''Obey Allah and Abey messenger'' does not mean 2 different Sources ?

17:78
Establish worship at the going down of the sun until the dark of night, and (the recital of) the Qur'an at dawn. Lo! (the recital of) the Qur'an at dawn is ever witnessed. (Pickthall's translation)

From Quranic teaching it is clear that Allah knows and witness everything , everywhere and at every time from sub-atomic level to Heavenly bodies and beyond that.
what Could me meaning of Recital in Dawn is ever witnessed ?
If it refers to the Angels , what  extra importance it carries because Allah knows everything whether it be witnessed by Angels or not ?

Salamun alaikum forum members ,

It is a commonly asked question by Hadith follower Muslims that how this verse can be understood using Quran alone?.

تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ

111:1 Perish the hands of the Father of Flame! Perish he! (Yusuf Ali)

111:1 The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish. (Pickthall)

111:1    Perdition overtake both hands of Abu Lahab, and he will perish. (Shakir)

Who was Abu lahab ?

Thank You.

Translation by MAS ABDEL HALEEM

1:6 Guide us to the straight path

1:7 the path of those you have blessed , those who incur no anger(1)  and who have not gone stray.

(1)- note that the verb is not attributed to God as it is in many translation.

I want to ask that which translation is more correct , Abdel haleem's  or all other major translations. I used corpus.quran but i cant figure it out .
We use this surah in our daily prayers and i offer it in my mother tongue , so it becomes important to know it .
Thank you.

16:63 (Sahih international translation)
"By Allah , We did certainly send [messengers] to nations before you, but Satan made their deeds attractive to them. And he is the disbelievers' ally today [as well], and they will have a painful punishment.

Please will you explain me why Allah used the words 'By Allah' himself in 16:63 ? Looks strange.

General Discussions / Was the flood on Noah's people global or local ?
« on: August 13, 2012, 02:17:50 AM »
Salaam alaikum all group members ,
I have been thought since childhood that it was a global flood .
But carrying a pair of each  living species who live on land  on a ship is not possible.
On the other hand , Noah's son took refuge on mountain but still he drowned.
Or was it global flood or a local flood or like a tsunami ?
Thank you.

Salaam alaikum group members , Can someone explain me 11:7 ?

"And it is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days - and His Throne had been upon water - that He might test you as to which of you is best in deed. But if you say,"Indeed, you are resurrected after death,"those who disbelieve will surely say,"This is not but obvious magic."

I have 2 confusions in this verse .

1) Regarding god's throne/rule  on water.

2) that why they the peoples would say that this is clear sorcery when nothing abnormal happened in that scene ?

i am curious to know it because this verse can be used to support extra-quranic stories in which prophet did miracle.
Thanks in advance.

Salaamun alaikum to all the members ,

What Quran tells about peoples who can not afford to learn Quran , basics of islam , etc. and then do shirk.
some examples of people who comes in these category  (According to my experience) i am sure many other type of peoples will also come in this category.

1) Lady whose husband is dead , have a small child , works day and night to eat , do not have time to do anything except her job, do not know to read and write.

2) lady born on road , do not know to read and right , strives to eat.

3) A man lost his one hand ,lives just above  poverty line and   no bank balance , teaches in madarsa(islamic schools teaching Quran and Hadith) , his any reasoning against orthodox thinking will lead to his expulsion from his post. He has to support his old parents too.

Statue worshiping is very common here , so if such peoples (example 1 and 2 ) commits shirk looking at others around them, what will be their fate in light of Quran ?

Please also comment on example 3 .

Thank you.

2:187(Yusuf Ali translation)
Permitted to you, on the night of the fasts, is the approach to your wives.
They are your garments and ye are their garments. Allah knoweth what ye used to
do secretly among yourselves; but He turned to you and forgave you; so now
associate with them, and seek what Allah hath ordained for you, and eat and
drink, until the white thread of dawn appear to distinct from its black thread;
then complete your fast till the night appears;

Tafseer of Yusuf Ali :-
Till the night appears: From the actual practice of the Holy
Prophet, this is rightly interpreted to mean: "Till sunset."

The word Al-Layli  is translated by different translators as
Sahih international - Sunset
Muhsin Khan - Night fall
Pickthall - Nightfall
shakir - Till Night
Dr.Ghali - Night
Corpus.Quran.com/wordbyword.jsp - Night

Among south Asian Muslims , Iftaar is done just before Adhaan of Maghrib prayer , Before Actual blackening of the sky . Sky is dark blue  and stars and moon are not visible at that time.
What Should be done in a situation that  friends  and colleagues are calling to eat(Break the fast)  And Sky is not yet Black. Showing them verse 2:187 will be explained by Practices of Prophet written in Hadith and tafseers by them.

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE IN SUCH SITUATION  MAINTAINING OUR RELATIONS WITH HADITH FOLLOWER MUSLIMS ?

(Monotheist translation)

6:160  Whoever comes with a good deed, he will receive ten times its
worth, and whoever comes with a sin, he will only be recompensed
its like;
they will not be wronged.

7:38 He said: “Enter with the multitude of nations before you from
mankind and Jinn to the Fire!” Every time a nation entered, it
cursed its sister nation, until they are all gathered inside it; then
the last of them says to the first: “Our Lord, these are the ones
who have misguided us, so give them double the retribution of
the Fire!” He replied: “Each will receive double, but you do not
know.”

29
5:3
Forbidden to you is that which is already dead, and the blood, and
the meat of pig, and what was dedicated to other than God, and
that which has been strangled, and that which has been beaten
to death, and that which has fallen from a height, and that which
has been gored, and that which the wild animals have eaten from
except what you managed to rescue
, and what has been slaughtered
on altars, and what you divide by the arrows of chance. This is
vile. Today the rejecters have given up from your system, so do
not be concerned by them, but be concerned by Me. Today I have
perfected your system for you, and completed My blessings upon
you, and I have approved submission as the system for you. So,
whoever is forced by severe hunger and not seeking sin, then God
is Forgiving, Merciful.

6;145
Say: “I do not find in what is inspired to me to be unlawful for
any eater to eat except
that it be already dead, or running blood, or
the meat of pig - for it is foul - or what is a wickedness, dedicated
to other than God.” But whoever is forced to, without seeking
disobedience or transgression, then your Lord is Forgiving,
Merciful.

30
The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu
alaihi wa sallam) said:
“Those who are
fair and just will be with Allah on
thrones of light, on the Right Hand of
the Most Merciful – and both His Hands
are Right Hands – those who were just in their judgements towards their
families and in any matter which was
entrusted to them.” [Muslim]
-------------------------------------------------------
While defending These type  Hadith , an explanation is made by telling that such type of  words  are also used in Quran while referring to Allah.
But as far as i know , According to Quranic teaching , shape , size , colour , etc of Allah can not be determined or imagined .
so what should be the inference ?
