 Salaam br. Joseph and all,

As you know, the Shia reference verse 5:55 as an allusion to Ali's giving of a ring in ruku.  Translations reflect the sectarian views:

1.  those who believe, establishing prayer and paying charity even while bowing down. or
2.  those who believe, establish prayer, pay zakah, and they bow down humbly

Justification for option one is there is no such rule that the muslim should give zakat while bowing down in prayer.

Is this a case of misplaced punctuation?

Islamic Duties / Re: Salath is Prayer ( Zikrillah)

Salaam br Sardar,

I do not have a problem with salat being a ritualized prayer.  This is how we communicate with our Creator.  He communicates with us through ayat; some verbal some nonverbal.  Similarly, salat is a means of communication verbal and non-verbal of ours.

Salaam Sardar,

I have a question, ( O you who believe) is addressed to which gender?  Females should be included in the congregational prayer because Maryam was asked to bow down with the bowers.

In countries ruled by Shariah, do they have two different sessions to separate the men and the women?

Thanks

salaam Wakas,

Quote4) 48:29 says "fee their wajh" - what is the most common translation of "fee" in Quran? Is it "in" or "on"?

I would understand this verse as they do sajda so much that it reflects on their face as humility and piety.

Quote48:25 clearly states fellow believers were unknown/unrecognisable - how do you reconcile this with believers having a mark upon their forehead, if that is your view?

Yes, prophet did not recognize them just like he does not who were mushriq in his time.  Some Meccans had accepted Islam without his knowledge.  Only God knows who is a sincere believer.  Some prostrate because they submit, others prostrate because of deep conviction.

Peace,

Had the Prophet fabricated certain sayings:

when he was threatened as mentioned in 10:15
"When Our clear revelations are recited to them, those who do not expect to meet Us say, Bring us a different Quran, or make some changes in it. Say, It is not for me to change it of my own accord. I follow only what is revealed to me. I fear, if I were to disobey my Lord, the punishment on a Dreadful Day.  or

when he was tempted as mentioned in 17:73
"They indeed sought to entice you away from what We revealed to you, hoping that you might invent something else in Our name; and then they would have accepted you as a close friend.

but he has never done it

Peace,

Thank you EC for sharing such an 'eye-opening' article.  The numbers against us are staggering.  What is more shocking is our not responding to the call of the Quran to ponder over creation to understand the greatness of God.  The spirit of inquiry is blocked by the fallacy of acquiring knowledge is reserved only for matters of religion as in Islamic sciences.      Chanting Allahu Akbar is easier and sufficient.

Salaam,

QuoteIndicates that the Jews and Christians will believe in Jesus (PBUH) [properly] before either:

1.  The Jew of Christian dies or;
2.  Jesus (PBUH) dies.

Given that Jews and Christians die every day believing incorrectly in Jesus per the Qur'an, for this ayah to be true it could be understood that Jesus (PBUH) has not have died yet.

Thoughts?

Before the Jew or Christian dies.  Jesus will be a witness against them.

5:116  When God says, Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to people, Take me and my mother as two deities besides God? He will answer, Glory be to You! How could I ever say that to which I have no right? If I had ever said so, You would surely have known it. You know what is in my mind, while I do not know anything that is within Yours. You alone are the knower of unseen things

5:117  I told them only what You commanded me to, Worship God, my Lord and your Lord. I was a witness to what they did as long as I remained among them, and when You did cause me to die, You were the watcher over them. You are the witness of all things,

3:50  I have come to confirm the truth of the Torah which preceded me, and to make some things lawful to you which used to be forbidden. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. Be mindful of God, obey me:

These are my thoughts.  Remember not all Christians are Trinitarian and many have already embraced the truth.  I am sure brother Joseph will answer you as soon as he can

Peace

Salaam,

Quote4:159. And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in him [i.e., Jesus] before his death.  And on the Day of Resurrection he will be against them a witness.

Jews did not believe him as the messenger of God and believed that they proved he was accursed per Deut. 21:23

His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but you shall in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that your land be not defiled, which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance.

Christians believed they got atonement from sins because he died on the cross.

Jew or Christian  who comes to realize his false beliefs before his death maybe too late.

4:18  Forgiveness is not for those who continue to do evil deeds until, when death comes upon one of them, he says: Now I repent! nor from those who die as deniers of the truth. We have prepared a painful punishment for them.

General Discussions / Re: Magic

Peace Chadiga,

The title confuses me, since I'm conditioned to think of magic as trickery.  But if we define it as supernatural powers that produces desired results I'm with you.  It is a relative concept based on understanding.  Once diseases were considered caused by evil spirits.  As far as humans are concerned, jinn and angels are supernatural or immaterial yet they are creations of Allah and can only act according to God's will; they cannot act independently.

58:10  Conspiracy for evil purposes is the work of Satan, by which he means to bring grief to believers. But he cannot harm them in the least, unless it be by Gods leave. Let the believers put their trust in God.

I suppose jinn can take human form too just like some angels or have the physical faculty of hearing like those listening to the Quran.  Solomon did not disagree with the jinn who claimed to be able to bring the queen's throne in an instant.

The heart emits electromagnetic fields based on your emotions.  Sometimes I can feel the negative vibes coming from certain people when I am in close proximity to them.

Peace Chadiga,

You are so right.  Life is a miracle.  There are four types of 'coming into existence' are mentioned in the Quran.

1.   Adam                    Male    X      Female      X
2.   Eve                                 ✔                       X
3.   Jesus                               X                       ✔
4.   Man                                ✔                       ✔

Salaam,

I think it is one of the traditions that God allows it to continue as a symbol of devotion.  We can see that in the Bible, too.  I do not know of any commandment to face Jerusalem either but it is a human need to seek the Unseen. People knew the idols that they carved were not the gods; only a symbol of them.

Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

It is just like the name Allah. It is allowed to continue because Quran's focus is not the Named but the relationship between the Named and the man.

Wakas said,   "The word "qiblah", and its root (QBL), cannot be shown to clearly mean "prayer direction" in any AQ occurrence.

ق ب ل  = Qaf-Ba-Lam = to accept/admit/receive/agree, meet anyone, to face/encounter someone/something, advance/approach, correspond, counteract/compare/requite/compensate, the front part (12:26), accept with approval, show favor. Lane

qiblah n.f. 2:142, 2:143, 2:144, 2:145, 2:145, 2:145, 10:87

The foolish will ask, What has made them turn away from their direction of prayer which they used to face? Say, The East and the West belong to God. He guides whom He pleases to the right path.

"What has turned them away from the focal point that they were on"

What has turned them from the direction they were facing in the Prayer?"

"What made the Muslims change their Qiblah, the direction to which they turn at prayer?"

´What has made them turn round from the direction they used to face?´

"What has turned them from the direction they were facing in the Prayer?

`What has made these (Muslims) turn from their (first) Qiblah (- the direction they were facing in their Prayer, the holy place of worship at Jerusalem) to which they conformed (so far)?

"What has turned them from their Qiblah (direction, focus, goal), to which they were used?"

"What has turned them from the Center of Devotion (Jerusalem) which people formerly observed?

"How come they were praying towards Jerusalem and now suddenly they changed their direction towards Mecca?

"What turned them away from their (prayer) direction ,which they were on it?"

qib'latihimu   their direction of prayer

Center of Devotion is similar to pray.
Focal point, focus, goal  to what?  Brother Wakas, I really want to understand you whether I agree with you or not.  Which meanings listed above do you think it will serve the Qiblah meaning better?
