Topics - Reader Questions

#101
Assalamu Alaikum,

My name is [Name removed] and I'm from Bangladesh. Before I ask my question, I just want to say that I'm so glad that I've come across your website and found out so many wonderful things about your work. Before I read the articles on your website, I felt terrible about how the hadiths degrade women. May Allah's blessings be with you in this world and the hereafter.

My question is:
Does Islam permits a woman to marry someone who she likes without her father's or uncles permission? If so then can you prove it with any verse from the Quran?

Selam Aleykum brother Joseph,

Hope your doing well

I was posed with a question regarding the direction of circumambulation of the Kaba and was unable to give an answer directly from the Quran and was curious if you had knowledge on this. How do we know that it must be done in an 'anti-clockwise' direction?

Thank you in advance brother

Assalam aleykum Mr. Joseph Islam,

With great interest I read your website. I converted two years ago to Islam. I studied enough Arabic to read Qur'an, but I do not have a clear position on whether to accept hadith or not.

A general question, what is in your perspective the best way to achieve inner peace? Is reading Qur'an in Arabic a cure for stress and anxiety, or additional prayers?

Converting to islam caused a lot of problems for me, it is a very difficult process.

I hope to hear from you.

With best regards,

As salamu 'alikum wr wb, Dear respected brother thank you for sharing your entries on marriage.   Do you believe that mahr (dowry) is important to give to the woman to establish the contract?  Also do you have any idea about the technical meaning of the word nikah?  I have ran across sources that would tend to make it seem that it actually refers to sexual intercourse itself.

Your thoughts and feed back are always most welcomed.

Dear Joseph

I read your article on THE VIRGIN BIRTH OF PROPHET JESUS(pbuh). Quite reasonable. Also read UNDERSTANDING THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS (pbuh) FROM A QURAN'S PERSPECTIVE. I appreciate your understanding. (you can also add sura nur ayat 36 or sura fatir ayat 10 for the explanation of word `rafa')

Now my humble query, how do you understand the 49th ayat of sura al imran.

As a messenger to the Children of Israel: "I have come to you with a sign from your Lord; that I create for you from clay the form of a bird, then I blow into it and it becomes a bird by God's leave, and I heal the blind and the lepers, and give life to the dead by God's leave, and I can tell you what you have eaten, and what you have stored in your homes. In that is a sign for you if you have acknowledged."

I feel difficult to understand -

`that I create for you from clay the form of a bird, then I blow into it and it becomes a bird by God's leave'

and/or

`give life to the dead.

As we know that `give life to dead' is the absolute authority of Allah and He does not share it with anyone. (6:102, 7:54, 35:3, 39:62, 2:258 and many more)

Is the ayat 39 allegorical? As prophet Jesus used parables frequently.

Mark 4:34
But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

Dear brother Joseph,

I see your opinion is that only those on Hajj need do the Qurbani sacrifice.

However, verse. 2.196 seems to state "And complete the hajj and Umrah for God. But if you are prevented, then what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals."

Can you clarify please?

JazahkAllah

Peace.

Assalm walekum,

Brother Joseph,Is eating crab and lobster halal because the way they are killed is very inhuman. Lobsters are boiled alive and crabs are crushed to death. Also both these creatures remain alive out of water for a very long time. So please answer. I checked all the Q&A but there was nothing specific about crab and lobster on your website.

May Allah bless you with health and give taufique to all muslims to walk on seeratulmustaqeem.

A sister in faith

Thankyou

Salaams to you,

Sir,

I often hear these points :

A muslim who is sort of drowned in the love of prophet will copy each & every act of the prophet. So wearing the typical muslim clothes is more due to the love of  the prophet rather than a religious command.  Second point is that the jews are a perennial enemies of muslims, trying hard to sway muslims away from the right path. So following their cultures have a risk of opposing islam in a gradual manner.

Please enlighten.

Dear brother Joseph,

I have often wondered about this verse, 33.50, which appears to make marriage to cousins lawful- but only to the Prophet, and excludes believers at large.

Is this true or is this a misreading?

Kind regards

Dear brother Joseph Islam,

Based on secondary sources (one hadith), some people say, if someone does not have money, even teaching the proposed girl something from the Quran is sufficient, which will be treated as Mahar for her.  Can we find any justification for this statement in the Quran?

I need some comments from you at your convenience

Thanks, regards

Peace to you brother Joseph,

By the grace of Allah, I hope this finds you keeping well.

Dear brother, we have been blessed with a child in our family after much prayers to Allah. This happens to be our first grand child and therefore seek your guidance.

I would like to know if anything is mentioned in the Quran regarding the birth of a child? Is there anything we have to do like slaughtering a goat to feed the poor/ anything to be done while naming the child/ What about circumcision? I know there is no mention of this in Quran , but is it good to perform the same?

Dear brother I know you are a very busy person but always ready to offer your  guidance. Therefore, I look forward to hearing from you soon. Until then, you take care and may God bless and guide you in everything you set out to do.

With warm sisterly love & Prayers

Dear brother Joseph Islam, Assalamu alaikum

Someone asked me the following question.   Appreciate giving me some comments from you at your convenience.

When we die do we go right into the next dimension of existence or do we have soulsleep?

Kind regards

Peace Dear Brother

In 5:32 we read:

[Asad] Because of this did We ordain unto the children of Israel that if anyone slays a human being-unless it be [in punishment] for murder or for spreading corruption on earth-it shall be as though he had slain all mankind; whereas, if anyone saves a life, it shall be as though he had saved the lives of all mankind. And, indeed, there came unto them Our apostles with all evidence of the truth: yet, behold, notwithstanding all this, many of them go on committing all manner of excesses on earth.

I recently learnt that there is no verse in the Bible that says something similar to the above. However, such verses can be found in the Talmud.

If true, then is there not room in religion for oral traditions/explanations?

How would, you interpret/explain 5:32?

Please and thanks.

Mubashir

Asalama'alaykum dear brother Joseph

As you know we often hear when supporting the requirement of hadith that if the Quran provides all the guidance you need, where does it provide details of prayer then? How would you know how to pray? What is your view on such a question and how would you answer it?

Thanks for all your help

Salaam dear brother Joseph Islam,

Do you have any article on organ donation and its permissibility in Islam?  One of my friends is requested to speak on this subject and he is seeking my assistance to find out any expert articles on this subject.

Thanks, regards

Dear brother.

I came across an interesting article about the character of Imam Zohri, a famous hadith narrator. The author of this article asserts that the personality of Imam Zohri is rather suspicious. I read somewhere that many ahadith which talk about the 2nd coming of Prophet Isa (pbuh) have been narrated by Imam Zohri.

Here's the article: http://monthly-renaissance.com/issue/content.aspx?id=574

I thought you might find it interesting, and maybe you can shed some more light on this.

Peace

assalaam o alaikum,

Sir -

I love Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) & Alhamdullillah I have put quite a few of his manners in my life. Here I would ask for your opinion. Right from the time I wake up in the mornings till I retire at night I try to follow our prophet(pbuh). Most of his actions are from the islamic secondary sources. The duaas, the gait, the manner of speech, the dealings with people socially, the manner of sitting while eating, etc. Also the prayers during ablution, salaat, fasts, haj. The details of salaat posture are all from islamic secondary sources. I get peace while performing them. When I happened to know certain false ahadith I was depressed. I feared of following a way that is not actually told by the prophet. An article of yours says prohibition of gold for men is not mentioned in Quran. This has confused me about the use of gold for men. Whether to rely on the hadith ?

These are few of the points. Kindly help me.

JAZAAKALLAH

Assalaam o alaikum

Assalamu Alaikum,

How are you brother?

I have read many of your articles in your site.  Alhamdulillah you are doing a lot of work and research.  May Allah give you barakah in your time and efforts and give you more knowledge of the truth.

Anyways, I am writing to you regarding an issue that I am facing now.  I currently reside in Fort Mc Murray, Alberta, Canada.  It is a city that is very north.  As summer is approaching we are getting very long days.  Span of night is currently non existent.  Because the sun does set and rise but there is no time where it is absolute darkness.  So now the question is, we are suppose to abide by the Qur'an.  And the Qur'an tells us to pray in the 5 or 6 times that we pray.  But what is happening here is that it never gets dark in order to pray Salatul Isha as per the directive of the Qur'an.

I think you understand what I am trying to say.  So please throw some light into this issue with the guidance of Qur'an.

Jazak Allah Khair

PROPHET ABRAHAM'S (pbuh) ORIGINAL SANCTUARY - AT MAKKAH (MECCA) OR BAKKAH (BACA)?
http://quransmessage.com/articles/makkah%20bakkah%20FM3.htm

Salam Dear Brother Joseph

Upon reading an article of yours re Makkah Bakkah, I came across your following observation:

".....THE KAABA (MAKKAH) TO BE TAKEN AS A PLACE FOR PRAYER

It is useful to note that verse 2:125 confirms that the original standing place / station (maqam)  of Prophet Abraham (pbuh) was to be taken as a place for prayer.

002.125 (part)
"And when We made the House a place of return for mankind and a place of safety / security; and (said) take (from) the standing place / station of Abraham  as a place of prayer (Arabic: wa-ittakhidu min maqami ibrahima musallan)..."

I am not sure, whether you are referring to Abraham's standing place/station  originally being in Makkah or Bakkah?

Could you kindly elaborate?

Thanks in advance.
