I would appreciate if one could point me a verses/verses that clearly show salaah as an act of worship by bowing, prostrating, standing and reciting from the Quran

I do believe there are almost 100 derivative uses of the root word salah and not being either Arabic speaking nor a scholar I would appreciate any help.

Jzk. And kind regards

Although I recognise that Allah in the Quran clearly asks politeness and be non judgemental to all, does the quran over any advise on whether one can trade or do business with open/blatant polytheists

General Discussions / Day of arafah in the Quran
August 21, 2018, 08:48:59 PM
Salaam all
I've heard numerous things about the day of arafah.
2 years of expiation of sins if you fast, the day of resurrection, hajj not  Valid if the arafah ritual not complete, etc
Does the Quran say or prove any secondary claims??

General Discussions / Right hand and not left
July 25, 2018, 08:38:17 PM
Salaam all
I would like to learn the significance of the "right hand" mentioned in these verses
Why right over left?
Not the right side as in other verses but "right hand" as Allah refers to his right hand. I believe this is symbolic but in what way?

then he turned and struck them with his right arm.
-Sura As-Saaffat, Ayah 93

These people have no grasp of God's true measure. On the Day of Resurrection, the whole earth will be in His grip. The heavens will be rolled up in His right hand- Glory be to Him! He is far above the partners they ascribe to Him!-
-Sura Az-Zumar, Ayah 67

We would certainly have seized his right hand
-Sura Al-Haqqah, Ayah 45

You never recited any Scripture before We revealed this one to you; you never wrote one down with your hand. If you had done so, those who follow falsehood might have had cause to doubt.
-Sura Al-Ankabut, Ayah 48

'Moses, what is that in your right hand?'
-Sura Ta-Ha, Ayah 17

There are other verses that talk about records being given to the successful in their right hand.
It is is difficult to ignore the significance of this right over left and its understandable that when seperating between right and wrong it's the right and wrong that actually matters and not the side they are on, but still the right hand seems to be favoured over the left.
Did the Arabs traditionally favour right over the left? Do other scriptures Alude to any sort of right over left preference?

Kind regards

General Discussions / Is hajj obligatory?

I found this an interesting read (quite short), but for the  lack of my Arabic grammar has not convinced me.

5.5 says "food of the people of the book is permissible to you and your food permissible for them"

If people of the book do not slaughter animals by mentioning God's name over it does that imply mentioning God's name while slaughtering is not a requirement OR people of the book did mention God's name but do not anymore?

Kind regards jzk

Salaam all

Then I found brother Joseph's thread which cleared it up.

" Furthermore, mentioning the name of God before the animal is sacrificed is a requirement mentioned in the Quran. This can also be attested from the following verse which has nothing to do with sacrificial animals.

005.004
"They ask you what is lawful to them Say: lawful to you are (all) things good and pure: and what you have taught your trained hunting dogs in the manner directed to you by God: eat what they catch for you, but pronounce the name of God over it: and fear God; for God is swift in taking account"

The verse is clear that one is to pronounce the name of God over the food that is caught. It can be argued that this verse simply requires one to pronounce the name of God before eating the animal and not during slaughter. However, as carrion (dead meat) is forbidden, the hunting animal will be trained to bring the prey alive or in a state where it can be made lawful to eat (by slaughtering it in a lawful manner). It is in this context that the pronouncement of God's name is being mentioned which is being posited as a requirement for slaughter."

I found this person who claims slaughtering is only for hajj. Please have a read and critique.

I have read Joseph islam halal food section and although it is quite clear I have a couple of questions.

1) There are same claims that all food (apart from what is prohibited) can be eaten once God's name is mentioned over it. In the case of meat only grazing livestock, hunting dog kills etc.  Is this true?

2) Animals slaughtered that which over God's name has NOT BEEN mentioend. Is this a requirement whilst slaughtering or before eating or both?

3) Is "ziba" a requirement and if so then what is it?

Kind regards jzk

General Discussions / Re: Names of the 12 mths

Peace brother duster
Yes I fully agree I just wanted to check if there was an answer in the Quran. I understand ramadhan as a month would already have been in effect but I was wondering if there was anyway to confirm this because there already seems to be confusion around what the four sacred months are.

Salaam and Jzk brother wakas for the sources. I will Insha Allah have a look soon.
I was wondering how one could verify that ramadhan is indeed the 9th month of the historical calendar using the Quran alone

General Discussions / Names of the 12 mths

How would one know what the 12mths are without learning it from tradition? Does the Quran name all 12mths as a new concept or were they already in use before?

What is a fatwa? Does the Quran support it and if it does then on what grounds can they be issued  by whom and what are the consequences of not adhering to them in God's eyes?

Kind regards and Jzk
