The need for languages
« on: December 22, 2013, 10:41:17 PM »
Salamun Alaikum (Peace be upon you),

Excellent site and forum. I came across this excellent article "Why was Quran revealed in Arabic?" by brother Joseph Islam http://quransmessage.com/articles/why%20in%20Arabic%20FM3.htm

In context of 030:022 “And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variations in your languages and your colours: indeed in that are Signs for those who know”, i felt the question is not "Why was Quran revealed in Arabic?" but why such diversity and variation in languages was designed by Allah in the first place when it was very much possible to have one common language for all human beings??

Look forward to insights...

Salaam.

So that we marvel at their astounding resourcefulness and gracefulness, and how each language reflects the thoughts and culture of a people, thus enhancing mutual understanding and respect among peoples, etc.

So that we perceive the clear message of inherent and abidingly manifest, in the inevitable, mutual, multifarious affinities, interdependence and mutual enrichment of languages and cultures, in spite of the diversity of languages.

This message of unity and other values inherent in such diversity, should keep us from prejudices and subsequent discord, in the name of languages.

A. Ismail Sait.
