Peace Br Wakas,

I'm still not convinced or satisfied with the explanation you provided but nevertheless I'm very grateful for your attempt always  :)

You said: The point was in demonstrating God knows what they (angels/controllers) do not know, not whether they could remember names God taught them.

And you discussed 2:30, 31, 32 which seems to fit your explanation but if you look at 2:33 almost all traditional and even Quranist has rendered the meaning giving superiority of Adam over Angels and hence my confusion.

You raised the question the way I was expecting originally (treating both parties equally) but that is not how it is in Quran, for Adam it is Allama and for Angels it is Arada that too from Adam and not from Allah swt. Why?

salaam Br Wakas,

Here is my question posted earlier in the thread sometime ago:

Quote
Why or How Allah swt expect an answer by posing the same question to both Adam AS and the Angels while teaching the former and leaving the latter uninformed?

And He imparted unto Adam the names of all things; then He brought them within the ken of the angels and said: "Declare unto Me the names of these [things], if what you say is true." 2:31 (Asad)

At least I do not see they too were given the list of names (Asmaa) and could not retain - did I miss it? It's our fundamental belief that Allah's swt justice demands equal opportunity be given to both parties in the contest of comparison of knowledge/whatever else was being tested with that Asma question, isn't it?

Is Allama=Arada, then?

And also, I just came across some linguistic discussion on corpus on the pronouns employed in 2:31:

What is your take about all these stuff?

When I say every thread I mean every thread I'm involved in, somehow even when I'm specifically addressing questions to seniors by name you seems to ignore. I don't think you read the link I gave and my questions. Also, as my name suggest I'm here as a STUDENT to learn and correct myself and NOT to answer question to a question or tread in threads already thoroughly discussed in articles and other threads by Sir Joseph.

I humbly request you not to comment on my questions unless specifically addressed to you or to general group. Hope you understand and take it in positive stride. Peace :)

everything plus you don't have to insert yourself in every thread (my humble request, very respectfully).

If you are interested read this entire thread, my question, and the link I provided to get the whole picture before you speak.

Br Wakas Sir Joseph waiting for your kind input if you will  :)

Wanderer, thanks for your attempt but your opinion is way off, unfortunately. Also, you didn't answer my simple question is Allama=Arada?

Sir Joseph, Salaamun Alayka, if you have some time and find this thread could be please comment/elaborate on the lexical nuances of the words and pronouns as I came across this extremely interesting discussion here:

Thanks a lot br Wakas,  I read the whole article but not the inter-linked/referenced articles yet. It is very interesting alternate view the author proposed. Couple of questions:

  • Are you the author and are you one and the same person here http://www.quran434.com/about-the-author.html ?
  • Is the author saying there's no formal salah as it is universally taken to mean personal and congregational form of worship?

Salaam Brother Wakas,

You raised some interesting questions and it appears you're not fully satisfied with the chart, relevant articles and forum explanation for the allegedly controversial ayah, and you seems to disagree as you said:

Quote
A simple citing of context resolves the issue.

I would like to know what is that context and your explanation of the context?

The thread is old and I hope you get notified and spare some time to address my inquisitiveness as I believe debates and discussion on this verse is not fading anytime soon not at least for the next 4 years  :'(

Thanks Wanderer, although I had this general concept of "model" for Ummah (both the Prophet pbuh and his entire household) the warning appears disproportionate w.r.t stated issue. So, there must be some underlying wisdom or nuance that I'm missing. Otherwise, there are other places in the Quran where Prophet pbuh himself and mothers of believers were warned double the punishment etc. Here's it's not double or similar....hope to hear from others too if they have different insight.

Salaamun Alaykum,

Does anyone know if Sir Joseph Islam discussed/elaborate 66:4, my search failed to find relevant discussion although I found couple of threads on previous ayah 66:3 but nothing on 66:4.

[Say, O Prophet:] "Would that you two turn unto God in repentance, for the hearts of both of you have swerved [from what is right]! And if you uphold each other against him [who is God's message-bearer, know that] God Himself is his Protector, and [that,] therefore, Gabriel, and all the righteous among the believers and all the [other] angels will come to his aid."

My question in attempting to grasp the full picture/context of the discussion - why the wives of the Prophet (pbut) were sternly warned/reminded with reinforcement and support by Allah swt, Jibrael AS, Believers and Angels - all together (unimaginable power pack) against just two naturally/physically weak women for seemingly petty and domestic issue?

Islamic Duties / Re: Juma vs Zuhr

Salaam,

Thanks Br. Wakas for your kind attention on my query. Sorry my intention or desire was not to initiate another debate but if I were to reframe my query I would rather have asked:

Those who believe 5 prayers from Quran perspective, including Zuhr (regardless of Wusta) for them from their understanding of the two prayers, what are the differences between the two, viz., Zuhr and Jum'a?

Hope I didn't offend you or anyone who hold 2, or 3 Salahs only and not 5 from the Quran itself.

Regards :)

Thanks Duster for the post, I don't know how I missed it from FB main page probably it is part of some broken links in there. At any rate, I still see the the post and comments didn't explicitly give answer I'm looking for though the post captures the wisdom and correctly defended possibility of literal 950 years of life of Nuh AS.

IF you or someone can give the nuance between the two that would be helpful inshallah.  :)

Salaam,

What is the subtle difference between عَامًا and سَنَةٍ  in the ayah 29:14 which got lost in the translations with equal treatment = years?
