Dear all,
I feel that I cannot continue participating in this Forum without also clarifying my position.
My intention was not to undermine moderators' efforts, nor was it to make something unnecessarily public. Rather it was only that I felt something was not right and needed clarification. Nothing more nothing less. I like the QM Forum and have learnt a lot from it. That's why I wanted to make sure that everything is in it is just. And I appreciate that the Moderators have clarified the matter but what I don't appreciate is the way the Moderators responded to me when I have showed no disrespect to them. After all I only asked a question. I see nothing wrong with that.

Thank you.

Dear brother Joseph,
Thank you for your input.

Dear Moderators,

I think I should have posted this earlier. Anyway, with respect, I don't understand why Good logic's post was deleted. When I read it I found that it was logical and actually contained some truth. What if he is not advertising another's scholar opinion and its his opinion and he believes that its true. (Even if its similar to another scholar's opinion). And when its said "especially when academic differences of opinion have been made clear" does this mean that the Forum has a certain opinion ? The same as Quransmessage.com ?If so, wouldn't that restrict the Forum to one opinion only (even if there was first a chance to make academic differences clear) ? I mean there is no question that this forum has a certain direction, but I thought that was a natural thing not something that has to be enforced by moderators. After all this is a Quran study forum, so I think if should encompass different schools of thought. Please correct me if I'm wrong or missed something.

Any clarification on the matter is appreciated.
Thank you.

Dear brother Sardar,
With respect, labeling Good Logic this way, is not helping creating a sense of unity. Please think about this brother.

Thank you

General Discussions / How can unity be achieved ?
« on: July 25, 2014, 10:07:18 AM »
As salam alaykum,

How can muslims be united in thought and in action. How can we not get divided and differ like previous people when there are various opinions in almost every details in our religion ? Should we for instance unite according to the basics (Belief in God,angels, book ect...) and leave the details unresolved as it is. (Or will we differ in the basics also.)

Saheeh International translation*

[11:118]
And if your Lord had willed, He could have made mankind one community; but they will not cease to differ.
[11:119]
Except whom your Lord has given mercy, and for that He created them. But the word of your Lord is to be fulfilled that, "I will surely fill Hell with jinn and men all together."

[3:105]
And do not be like the ones who became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And those will have a great punishment.

Can we be from the people whom God has given mercy and not differ ?

Just some questions that have been on my mind lately. Any responses are appreciated.

General Discussions / The Quran as a healing for the heart
« on: July 21, 2014, 10:29:52 PM »
Yusuf Ali translation*

[10:57]
O mankind! there hath come to you a direction from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts,- and for those who believe, a guidance and a Mercy.

[17:82]
We send down (stage by stage) in the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe: to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss.

[41:44]
Had We sent this as a Qur'an (in the language) other than Arabic, they would have said: "Why are not its verses explained in detail? What! (a Book) not in Arabic and (a Messenger an Arab?" Say: "It is a Guide and a Healing to those who believe; and for those who believe not, there is a deafness in their ears, and it is blindness in their (eyes): They are (as it were) being called from a place far distant!"

As salam alaykum,

I wanted to know your opinions regarding the above verses. What does the term "healing" really mean. Healing from Shirk for instance ? And what verses fall under the category of healing verses (Or does this refer to all the Quran).

Thank you in advance.

141
Dear Br Joseph,

Thank you for clarifying.

142
Dear Br Joseph,

Thank you so much for answer, I find it quite significant the point you made. That some statements in the Quran are not ratified by God (if I understand correctly). I mean they can be assumptions (like you said) or opinions. But some "opinions" or statements made by people in the Quran such as the "Hekma" that prophet Lukman gave to his child are implicitly ratified by God I think. They should be followed as an example. But I am aware that the example of prophet Noah is different than the case of Lukman in what was being said.

[31:13] Yusuf Ali
Behold, Luqman said to his son by way of instruction: "O my son! join not in worship (others) with Allah: for false worship is indeed the highest wrong-doing."

Untill 31:19

Other statements like the following one made by the people of Karoun.

[28:76]
Qarun was doubtless, of the people of Moses; but he acted insolently towards them: such were the treasures We had bestowed on him that their very keys would have been a burden to a body of strong men, behold, his people said to him: "Exult not, for Allah loveth not those who exult (in riches).

[28:77]
"But seek, with the (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on thee, the Home of the Hereafter, nor forget thy portion in this world: but do thou good, as Allah has been good to thee, and seek not (occasions for) mischief in the land: for Allah loves not those who do mischief."

But when should an opinion in the Quran made by people taken as an absolute truth ?

Thanks again for you answer, I really appreciate the time you take to answer questions on the Forum.

Dear Br Joseph,

I was referring to the part in Bold, where it says " not beget except [every] wicked one and [confirmed] disbeliever". Maybe its not explicitly stated. But my reasoning was that it implied that the disbelievers will mislead their children making them disbelievers as well.

Sorry for not being clear enough.

144
As salam Alaykum,

The following verses talk about parents being the cause of misleading their children. I just wanted to know how does this fit with what you have shared above. Thank you

[71:26]
And Noah said, "My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant.
[71:27]
Indeed, if You leave them, they will mislead Your servants and not beget except [every] wicked one and [confirmed] disbeliever.

Salam Jav,
Welcome to the Forum  :)

I just have a comment on what you shared.
Quote
In my opinion the only reason a Muslim would believe in the Quran is because he or she had accepted Islam

Islam as a religion is accepted through the Quran. Not the other way around. At least from my experience. Can explain how can the Quran be believed in by accepting islam, When its the Quran that tells us about islam in the first place ?

Thank you.

Salam all,

I have met people who said they believed in the Quran because its makes them feel at peace when it is recited. Others stated that they believed in it because of the scientific miracles found inside it. Some when I asked them why do you believe the Quran is the word of God, they answered "because its the word of God" . While others may have believed in the Quran because of its arguments.

Therefore, is there a "best" way to reach a conclusion about the Quran, or are all paths to belief valid (even if it involves circular logic , appeal to emotions or any other similar method of thinking) ? In other words if someone believes in the Quran based on irrational reasons would it still be considered belief, would he need to change what he based his belief on or is it fine as he is as long as he believes ?

Thank you.

Dear Zafreen,

Quote
Anyone who says they are glad they went thru d bad as it made them who they are, have not gone they enough bad! Will a child who was kidnapped, sold, raped, mutilated and killed say to God, thank u as long as I reached paradise?

I just wanted to add something: We do not know a lot about paradise, we have not been there, therefore we can't say that people who suffered great injustice in this life will not be happy with paradise as a reward. We just can't because we do not know. Look at the following verses for instance.

[98:7] Saheeh International
Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures.
[98:8]
Their reward with Allah will be gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord.

Furthermore, any suffering in this world ends but paradise does not, this is another thing to put in mind. Which brings me back to my point we do not see the whole picture nor do we know all the wisdom behind what's happening. The best thing to do is to purify ourselves, endure patiently and put our trust in God.

Hope this helps
Peace.  :)

Dear Zafreen,

The problem of evil is a real issue for some people. Including me sometimes. But I think that there is an explanation. You see, in my humble opinion everything God does can be backed by 2 principles. Either Justice or Mercy.
Evil in this life can be considered as necessary justice or mercy from God.

First thing to be considered is that being tested is an essential part of this life(with either good or evil). This is part of God's mercy. As these tests allow humans to wake up and start moving towards the right path. Tests are a way to teach humans. Without them one could find himself deserving hell without realizing it. And it would not be unjust for him to go to hell. But because of God's mercy there are tests that allow help us in our spiritual growth.

But why test us in the first place ?

Again according to my understanding, its out of God's justice that we are tested. After all we are the ones who chose to be responsible of the AMANA.

Sometimes some people are a test for others. Just like the poor are a test for the rich.

But what did the poor do to be in this position in the first place ?

I think that it's part of God's wisdom. He knows what's best for every soul. Maybe if this poor person was made rich he would transgress. So God made him poor which is again mercy from God. Maybe being poor for a particular person is something necessary for his spiritual growth. Only God knows.

What I am trying to say is that sometimes God may do things that may seem evil from the outside because we do not see the whole picture. But maybe this evil is actually good. Because it may help a person enter paradise.

On the other hand, God also said that people who believe and do good deeds in this world, will live a good life. (On earth). so its not all evil. Also blessing in this world for some people are actually a bad thing. Because god uses them to mislead the wrongdoers. Sometimes there is underlying wisdom that we do not comprehend. Remember the story of moses and the man who was granted knowledge ?
Another example is how god created people ranks over each other. This is necessary for life on earth to go on. Evil is this world can also be a punishment from God. (This is out of justice)

Finally, the reward of the hereafter is better and more lasting. So what ever befalls a person in this world. One must remember that its not the end. On the contrary its merely the beginning.

Quote
A child is unlikely to say thank u for raping me, mutilating me, torturing me and killing me so I could reach paradise

There is wisdom behind everything that happens. Even if it seems evil. God is just and merciful. So anything that happens can be originated from these 2 principles. Even if with our limited perception we can't see the wisdom behind what happens.

Hope this helps.
