Shalom / peace  .....
Although the practice ritual of visiting Arafat is mentioned in the Qur'an....the other things you have mentioned have no basis from the Qur'an ......

Here is brother Joseph's article of what is mentioned in the Qur'an about Hajj ....

Shalom / peace Student ...... I'm not sure what you are expecting when brother Joseph has already laid out a detailed view of his opinion in the following article.

Either you agree with it or disagree.... I'm not sure what else can be debated here?

how do you reconcile the killing of the boy at the hands of servant of God in surah Kahf while imparting Musa AS knowledge. He said he didn't do all of this on his own but on God's command.

Shalom / peace .. when Allah takes the life of any human being whether it is a child or adult, He doesn't come to earth to do it .... He has appointment emissaries that carry the task out for Him .....>>> We do not know the identity of the 'servant' in Surah Kahf. There is no proof he was a human ....... Often Allah's messengers have carried out his tasks in human form ... Just think of the way the messengers came to Lot in human form and how they destroyed the town ...

my son wants to marry a girl. she is decent and from a good family  but she believes  in god as a super power  but not in any religion, actually religion  takes up no part in her life  i dont feel  comfortable with the idea and i even feel it will not be a halal marriage. am i correct? i hope someone can discuss the situation with me. thank you

Shalom / peace ....Correct religion is an important part of marriage.  Allah says even a believing slave is better for marriage than someone who doesn't have correct religion.  2:221. Basically, she is a 'Deist' of some kind. To be a believer - she also needs to accept verse 2:285. There are exceptions for marriage - people of the book.  But they also have to have correct beliefs.

Good thread......  Just to add, and I've inferred this from brother Joseph's comments at times that he may also choose to keep quiet ....or wants questions to be shared openly so that other knowledgeable people can also share their views ....

Salaam and Jzk brother wakas for the sources. I will Insha Allah have a look soon.
I was wondering how one could verify that ramadhan is indeed the 9th month of the historical calendar using the Quran alone

Kind regards and peace

Shalom / peace Miracle114 ...... No one can verify that Ramadan is the 9th month of the historical calendar or any of the months just from the Quran ... That's why bro Joseph and others on this forum don't believe in or advocate the indefensible 'Quran alone' approach ........ They advocate the 'Quran-centric' approach and accept the language of the Arab people prior to the Quran's revelation ..... As br. Joseph said below...

Quote
"As you know dear brother, the Quran did not intend to 'define' the Arabic language. It expected its primary audience to be familiar with the cradle of the language through which it spoke to them.

I think if one does Wudu after passing wind, its more of precaution.

Shalom / peace ...to my knowledge....Qur'an does not prescribe this practice.

Shalom / peace... There is an interesting article related to this on this website by br. Joseph.

Dear Br. Duster,

Respectfully, if I am not wrong, I think you might have missed the purport of my presenting that verse. All I have tried to do is elaborate on what seems to be shared by Br. Joseph. If you follow my comment above, you will find that I strongly am in support of the view that ‘private consultation’ was advised to be preceded by a charity in the spirit of a kind offering as an appreciation to whatever advice consulted, in the main, as a better approach, and where affordable.

The verse is intended to absolve the Prophet (pbuh) of any seeming charge whatsoever of a claim to ask for any typical fee. This is with a view to avoid confusing the preaching of the Quran’s message that is linked to 36:21 (42:23) with individual consultation on various matters at a personal level (58:21/ 4:114).

Kindly follow through my whole comment carefully please.

Regards,
Athman.

Shalom / peace Athman ....thank you for the clarification ..... :)

As regards not asking of a pay/fee for the Prophetic/religious preaching, this was in fact instructed of the Prophet (pbuh) by God as even of a proclamation (42:23).

It is that of which Allah gives good tidings to His servants who believe and do righteous deeds. Say, [O Muhammad], "I do not ask you for this message any payment [but] only good will through kinship." And whoever commits a good deed - We will increase for him good therein. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Appreciative.” (Qur’an, Ash-Shura 42:23)

Shalom / peace Athman ..... I think though that 42.23 is speaking about the message - i.e the Quran. Prophets didn't ask.for fees to preach the Scriptures like the Quran. That is an instruction by Allah. However, private consultations can be a number of things using religious guidance.  Just think of the many queries that could result such as family disputes, rights and wrongs, advice etc etc....

There is also a difference between a prophet or messenger preaching and a lay man preaching or doing religious work for his main living ....

I think there is more to it what brother Joseph has stated

I'm sure he'll clarify if he needs to. But thanks for your comments  Worth reading .....

Shalom / peace Ilker .... when you say the Quran is coherent and I believe it is precise too, then why can't night just be night? i.e.  if the Quran says night...it means night!

You say it would be illogical that he could speak during the day.... why? If the Quran says he lost his speech in the night, then that could be considered a bigger sign for him as he lost his voice only a certain part of every day, not just a simple ailment which he could put down to a bad throat or something. If we take all the verses where the Quran has used night and start saying it means day too, then a lot of verses will become illogical......

Also as brother Joseph referenced as well.  In verse 69-7 it says  ..."Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days............'. If the night include the days then why did the Qur'an clarify and include mention of the days here?

I think we need to be careful here ...

You have not specifically replied about 2:187 explicitly specifying a sequence, or 91:4 explicitly describing night as covering the sun, so I don't see the point of continuing that discussion.

I've provided enough responses. I don't work on your demands or anyone else of what should and should not be responded to if I think it futile ..... I've made my points clear which are more pressing for me .....

I've referred you to the classic definition which clearly lists primarily when the day starts i.e. Fajr You pick and make reference to an 'also'. Fine by me but it's not convincing. Sorry.

I've made a clear point - Why did Allah not say sunset when similar words are found in the Quran .. You appear not to press up on it ... Fine by me ....

If you don't see the point of continuing the discussion ...pity ...as it's an important topic to discuss.  Therefore on the same basis that you haven't provided any convincing evidence either from the Quran or classical dictionaries that sunset is definitely the point from where the new day starts ... then I also see no point in continuing the discussion with you on the matter.....That too .. fine by me .....

Shalom / peace.
