Islamic Duties / Nighttime activity
« on: April 29, 2014, 05:11:05 AM »
Salam,

A few days ago i had a Dispute with my brother in law Topic of it was working in the night.I said to him that god dont want us to work in the night instead we should rest.He said there is no Prohibition in the Quran about working in the night instead he quoted an ayat were we are encourage to make "IBADa" in one part of the night .I said you can´t compare it with work with cost of living at the he came with an hadith where "the Prophet scolded one guy who was only sitting in mosque and listend to the Prophet whereas his brother hardly visited the mosque and the Prophet because he was working and the Prophet said that working brother is better than him"...
And then he said to me if everybody would think like you,the Society would collapse.

What is your opinion on working nights.

regards

Some are rubbing the place on the forehead with garlic and other substance to make it darker. But Allah dont like the one who is proud and arrogant ,and i think i read in JAI article the could also mean the Aura of a Person is shining through Prostration.I tend to find this Explanation to be correct ,just imagine an Angle who prostrates as much as the one who is bringing forth this mark on the forehead is coming in a Humanbody to People they would be afraid of this look. That´s my opinion to this visibal marks.

I found this ayat which could shed some light to the unnamed servant in sura 18.

Sura 4"Christ disdaineth not to serve and worship Allah, nor do the angels, those nearest (to Allah): those who disdain His worship and are arrogant― He will gather them all together unto Himself to (answer). (172) "

in other Translation they used for "abdan" slave ,Yusuf Ali´s translation fits better to understand that Angles are also "abdan"

"...And I did it not of my own accord..." (18:82).

He did it not by his will according to this ayat,if it is an angle it wouldn´t be mentioned that he didn´t act on his own,so we can suppose that it is a Human but we have seen that the pronouns changed from "I" to "WE" in accompany with the use of the word"Lord",which makes this individual part of an divine gathering.

If he is a Prophet then he had a licence to kill a Person who might do harm to his parents"And as for the lad, his parents were believers and we feared lest he should oppress them by rebellion and disbelief. (80) "

If he is a holy Person like some say then he did a sin like the son of Adam who killed his brother Sura 5""For me, I intend to let thee draw on thyself my sin as well as thine, for thou wilt be among the companions of the Fire and that is the reward of those who do wrong." (29) "

I like the Statement of mine, that all this is dream,i came to this because of the fish and his former companion  who suddenly disappered.

Salam to all,
I used to think that the People who followed Noah into the Boat where only his Family, most christians ,jews and also think learn that Story, that the Person who were saved are :Noah (pbuh)
                                                                              his wife
                                                                              his sons (Ham,Sam,Japhet)
In the Quran we read that one son of Noah died in the flood and the wife of Noah was described as equal to Lots wife 66:10(maybe she died also in the flood)but there were other persons with them.
Sura 11
At length behold! There came Our Command, and the fountains of the earth gushed forth! We said: "Embark therein of each kind two, male and female, and your family except those against whom the Word has already gone forth and the Believers." But only a few believed with him. (40)

But there are People mentioned in the Quran ,who did not belive in the Message of the Prophets and they even fight them, but he did not send angels to them, they are only send for a particular reason ,i don´t find the ayat right now.
There are a lot of wicked Kids but the creator let them do like he let all tyranns in History let them do what they did.

I think the Story is a Vision of Moses and it seems like it is representing Moses life:

drowning the boat=Moses was saved in a boat from killing
killing the Boy      =Moses killed and egyptian
People in village dont serve them Food=Moses expel from egypt
Wall with treasure for two orphans=Moses and Haruns Chosen by God

Thats just a theory Allahu alam

Sorry wrong calculation ;Sana=season;7Sana=1year 9month

The harvest in old egypt depended from the Monsoon in Ethiopia which brought the flood.

@Ismail
In sura 9:36 we read that the number of the month is 12 and further in 9:37 we read that four are sacred ,and that the disbeliever Change them in one "AaM"to the other "AaM" so if shahr in 9:36 is translated as month than "AaM" consist of 12 Units of shahr.

In sura 12:46 Joseph interpreted the Dream of the ruler in which he ordered them to sow as normal but to leave an amount of it in hard times.I would also say that this means 7 sow season,as you has quoted lane´s Lexicon.
Do they sow two times a year then it is a period of 3 and half year in which they have enough corn which will be followed by 3 and half year of less corn.

Salam Yusuf ali,

I consider these behaviour of the People as beeing one of "Al-MuSRiFun" ,we should take what is there in our Environment
and only take what we need for Food.

(140) It is He who produceth gardens, with trellises and without, and dates, and tilth with produce of all kinds and olives and pomegranates, similar (in kind) and different (in variety): eat of their fruit in their season, but render the dues that are proper on the day that the harvest is gathered. But waste not by excess: for Allah loveth not the wasters. (141)

Pharao was called "AL-MuSRiFun" he wasted his Lifestyle with extravagance his addiction was to be godlike.I dont know in which catagory People who take their desires as god belong ,there are People who belive in God,Angels,Prophets and his Books
and join the gatherings of Praying but do "suffer" by addicted activities like you quoted YusufAli,but they are not loved by God.

Salam GoodLogic,

Thanks for posting the ayats of Noahs folk who indeed did terrible sins according to your post.

But we do not find that they did war,or have killed People.

If there were one Million(half female/male) People in the area where Noah lived and everybody lived centuries. They had to restrict themself to a one-child law for every centurie otherwise the planet would be overpopulated.Overpopulation would let to a shortens of resources and Food which let to war over the area which is furtile and rich of soil Minerals.

Another possibility is longlifliness is only found in Noahs Family,if this is the matter and the People around him lived only decades or 100years,they would consider him to be immortal or anglelike but in sura 23 we read "(23) But the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved, said: This is only a mortal like you who would make himself superior to you. Had Allah willed, He surely could have sent down angels. We heard not of this in the case of our fathers of old. (24)
"

So there is only one possibilty namely that all People around him lived as Long as Noah?

The question is how would a Society look like if individuals live for centuries?
Did they eat like we do?how did they manage their daily life, did they belive in the hereafter when seldom somebody dies?

Salam Joseph,
Thank you for the link and your perspective.

We had to take it under consideration that the People in Noahs area lived as Long as he did.Than we can come to the conclusion it was a very peaceful folk,no murder,no killing of old People who where much older than Noah.

 (22) And We verily sent Noah unto his folk, and he said: O my people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other god save Him. Will ye not ward off (evil)? (23) But the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved, said: This is only a mortal like you who would make himself superior to you. Had Allah willed, He surely could have sent down angels. We heard not of this in the case of our fathers of old. (24)

So all People in the time of Noah were longlifely ,Polytheist and not agressive against other People who belived not like they do.?

Salam to all,

I want to put the Age of Noah to discussion, did he really reached the "biblical"Age of nearly 1000years?

Sura 29:13 "(13) We (once) sent Noah to his people, and he tarried among them a thousand years less fifty: but the Deluge overwhelmed them while they (persisted in) sin. (14) "

If we look in arabic we fin that there a two different words used for year "sana" and "aman",is it by accident that there is the usage of two forms or does the author want say that only one is meant as a normal time ?

In Sure 2  :96   People want to live 1000 years
Sura 70:4    1 Day in Heaven=50.000 years on earth
Sura 32:5    1 Day in Heaven=1000    years on earth
Sure 97:3    1 Day better than 1000   month

Today we hear the youth when they want to descibe a Long period using 1000 like "...i waited 1000 years for you ;...i`ve said it 1000 times;...1000 People were waiting at the Counter"

So is the thousand in 29:14 to be understand like a Long period like "We sent Noah to his People, and he tarried among his People for a Long period until fifty years..."

I don´t want to doubt the possibility of a Long age given by God but if he was 1000 years among his People than the Ayat in sura 23:24 would not say that their ancestors did not hear about his Message.

Sallam,

Here is another example of Moses companion ,is he a Prophet or an Anlgle?
18:78 "I"
18:79 "WE"
18:80 "WE...THEIR LORD"
18:81 "YOUR LORD...I DID IT NOT UPON MY OWN COMMAND"
"78) As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working on the river, and I wished to mar it, for there was a king behind them who is taking every ship by force. (79) And as for the lad, his parents were believers and we feared lest he should oppress them by rebellion and disbelief. (80) And we intended that their Lord should change him for them for one better in purity and nearer to mercy. (81) And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure belonging to them, and their father had been righteous, and thy Lord intended that they should come to their full strength and should bring forth their treasure as a mercy from their Lord; and I did it not upon my own command. Such is the interpretation of that wherewith thou couldst not bear. (82) "

Good bye

"just out of curiosity in the verse 18:86 when its mentioned "WE SAID" are you thinking thats refers to Zul Qurnain . and is that why you asked if prophets can be having a access to a divine assembly?"

Well he found People somewhere who did or use to do things what is against the rules in his home. His follower find that tradition(?) which some do to be punished so they asked this ruler who seems to be a wise man, maybe a Prophet, maybe he could possibly be a Prophet already mentioned in the Quran like Abbsrayray preferd him to connect with Solomon(pbuh).Actually there a places far from the home of Solomon which are named after him.

I thought that the "WE SAID"in 18:86 is a dialogue between Allahs mediums/Angles and Dhul-Qrnain but the speech identifies them to be not having authority to judge so Dhul-qrnain replies back
"18:87 He said: "Whoever doth wrong, him shall we punish; then shall he be sent back to his Lord; and He will punish him with a punishment unheard-of (before)."

We see that the some People are doing great sins and my humble opinion is that dhul-qrnain is speaking of death punishment because right after the punishment he/hey are sent back to his Lord.

So i think we have solved that "WE said " here

Salaam Deliverance,

I always understood the 'we' here as Zul-qarnain and his armies because he was given power in the land (18.84). So when he travelled, there would be a convoy I would have thought. But prophet Jesus was strengthened with the Holy Spirit but as far as i know never referred to himself as 'We'?
Salaam ,
This is one possible explanation that Zul-Qarnain is not alone travelling ,if he is a Prophet and is ruling over a Country he rather would be accompanied by some followers who said: "O Dhu al Qarnayn! (thou hast authority) either to punish them, or to treat them with, kindness."an allmighty god is knowing who should be punished or treat well.
Then he is replying to his followers

 (86) He said: "Whoever doth wrong, him shall we punish; then shall he be sent back to his Lord; and He will punish him with a punishment unheard-of (before)."

About Jesus (pbuh) i know that he is mentioned to be in a rank like the Angles but i did not find using plural in his speechs.
Sura 4"(171) Christ disdaineth not to serve and worship Allah, nor do the angels, those nearest (to Allah): those who disdain His worship and are arrogant― He will gather them all together unto Himself to (answer). "
