Dear Joseph

I read your article on THE VIRGIN BIRTH OF PROPHET JESUS(pbuh). Quite reasonable. Also read UNDERSTANDING THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS (pbuh) FROM A QURAN'S PERSPECTIVE. I appreciate your understanding. (you can also add sura nur ayat 36 or sura fatir ayat 10 for the explanation of word `rafa')

Now my humble query, how do you understand the 49th ayat of sura al imran.

As a messenger to the Children of Israel: "I have come to you with a sign from your Lord; that I create for you from clay the form of a bird, then I blow into it and it becomes a bird by God's leave, and I heal the blind and the lepers, and give life to the dead by God's leave, and I can tell you what you have eaten, and what you have stored in your homes. In that is a sign for you if you have acknowledged."

I feel difficult to understand -

`that I create for you from clay the form of a bird, then I blow into it and it becomes a bird by God's leave'

and/or

`give life to the dead.

As we know that `give life to dead' is the absolute authority of Allah and He does not share it with anyone. (6:102, 7:54, 35:3, 39:62, 2:258 and many more)

Is the ayat 39 allegorical? As prophet Jesus used parables frequently.

Mark 4:34
But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

salam

Dear brother Joseph,

I see your opinion is that only those on Hajj need do the Qurbani sacrifice.

However, verse. 2.196 seems to state "And complete the hajj and Umrah for God. But if you are prevented, then what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals."

Can you clarify please?

JazahkAllah

Peace.

Assalm walekum,

Brother Joseph,Is eating crab and lobster halal because the way they are killed is very inhuman. Lobsters are boiled alive and crabs are crushed to death. Also both these creatures remain alive out of water for a very long time. So please answer. I checked all the Q&A but there was nothing specific about crab and lobster on your website.

May Allah bless you with health and give taufique to all muslims to walk on seeratulmustaqeem.

A sister in faith

Thankyou

Salaams to you,

Sir,

I often hear these points :

A muslim who is sort of drowned in the love of prophet will copy each & every act of the prophet. So wearing the typical muslim clothes is more due to the love of  the prophet rather than a religious command.  Second point is that the jews are a perennial enemies of muslims, trying hard to sway muslims away from the right path. So following their cultures have a risk of opposing islam in a gradual manner.

Please enlighten.

Dear brother Joseph,

I have often wondered about this verse, 33.50, which appears to make marriage to cousins lawful- but only to the Prophet, and excludes believers at large.

Is this true or is this a misreading?

Kind regards

Peace

Q&As with Joseph Islam - Information Only / Mahar Given to a Woman
« on: October 14, 2013, 02:34:06 AM »
Dear brother Joseph Islam,

Based on secondary sources (one hadith), some people say, if someone does not have money, even teaching the proposed girl something from the Quran is sufficient, which will be treated as Mahar for her.  Can we find any justification for this statement in the Quran?

I need some comments from you at your convenience

Thanks, regards

Peace to you brother Joseph,

By the grace of Allah, I hope this finds you keeping well.

Dear brother, we have been blessed with a child in our family after much prayers to Allah. This happens to be our first grand child and therefore seek your guidance.

I would like to know if anything is mentioned in the Quran regarding the birth of a child? Is there anything we have to do like slaughtering a goat to feed the poor/ anything to be done while naming the child/ What about circumcision? I know there is no mention of this in Quran , but is it good to perform the same?

Dear brother I know you are a very busy person but always ready to offer your  guidance. Therefore, I look forward to hearing from you soon. Until then, you take care and may God bless and guide you in everything you set out to do.

With warm sisterly love & Prayers

Q&As with Joseph Islam - Information Only / When We Die - What Happens Next?
« on: September 17, 2013, 09:13:10 PM »
Dear brother Joseph Islam, Assalamu alaikum

Someone asked me the following question.   Appreciate giving me some comments from you at your convenience.

When we die do we go right into the next dimension of existence or do we have soulsleep?

Kind regards

Great response Brother. Thanks.

Perhaps you may wish to include it on the Quransmessage forum under "Questions and Answers" for others to benefit.

All the best!

Thanks for the prompt reply Brother. Two points:

1. The Quran used an oral tradition (well known to the Jews of that time) to make a point using the words"We ordain/We decreed"

2. Since no such decree can be found in the Bible, critics can say:

a. Muhammad (as they claim Quran is not divinely inspired book) got things mixed up here between the Bible and Talmud

b. Hadith supporters can use this to prove that oral traditions have a place in Islam (through the filter of the Quran).

That was what I was trying to understand.

I could not fail to notice that some translators have used the words "We ordain/decree" (present tense) and some used "We ordained/decreed".  Wonder if that would have any impact on the verse 5:32?

Thanks again!

PS: Just finished reading you article about the Exodus.  Makes much sense to me and highlights the importance of Quran as the Criterion.  Thanks for sharing. JZAK

Peace Dear Brother

In 5:32 we read:

[Asad] Because of this did We ordain unto the children of Israel that if anyone slays a human being-unless it be [in punishment] for murder or for spreading corruption on earth-it shall be as though he had slain all mankind; whereas, if anyone saves a life, it shall be as though he had saved the lives of all mankind. And, indeed, there came unto them Our apostles with all evidence of the truth: yet, behold, notwithstanding all this, many of them go on committing all manner of excesses on earth.

I recently learnt that there is no verse in the Bible that says something similar to the above. However, such verses can be found in the Talmud.

If true, then is there not room in religion for oral traditions/explanations?

How would, you interpret/explain 5:32?

Please and thanks.

Regards,

Mubashir

Salamum alaikum brother,

I just wanted to ask what is the difference between 'isha and layl within the context of the Qu'ran, prayers and fasting.

Regards,

133
Asalama'alaykum dear brother Joseph

As you know we often hear when supporting the requirement of hadith that if the Quran provides all the guidance you need, where does it provide details of prayer then? How would you know how to pray? What is your view on such a question and how would you answer it?

Thanks for all your help

Q&As with Joseph Islam - Information Only / Organ Donation
« on: July 04, 2013, 05:14:33 AM »
Salaam dear brother Joseph Islam,

Do you have any article on organ donation and its permissibility in Islam?  One of my friends is requested to speak on this subject and he is seeking my assistance to find out any expert articles on this subject.

Thanks, regards

Dear brother.

I came across an interesting article about the character of Imam Zohri, a famous hadith narrator. The author of this article asserts that the personality of Imam Zohri is rather suspicious. I read somewhere that many ahadith which talk about the 2nd coming of Prophet Isa (pbuh) have been narrated by Imam Zohri.

Here's the article: http://monthly-renaissance.com/issue/content.aspx?id=574

I thought you might find it interesting, and maybe you can shed some more light on this.

Peace
