General Discussions / Re: Understanding Sacred/Involiable/Forbidden Months
« on: September 27, 2016, 10:10:37 PM »
War is only permitted in self defense during the 8 months. However, it is not permitted at all during the sacred months, except in the most DESPERATE of occurrences.

I don't really understand what you are getting at here but this verse (2:282) is specifically talking about debt.

Firstly, this is only applicable in the matter of debt. Secondly, the second woman is only needed IF the first is not able to provide adequate witness. If she is, no need for second woman is needed. This is because back then, women had little education, and therefore there was a greater chance that they would err.

Yes, their "dust" here is a clear reference to the disintegrated ruins of their houses.

My interpretation? Those who drank were left behind and did not join Saul. Some of those who remained with Saul were then scared that they would be crushed by Goliath. But those of Saul's companions who were perhaps stronger in faith consoled them, telling them they had God on their side.

I don't think there's a connection, but, yes, during the Prophet's time there were certain Jews/Christians, who had concealed/deliberately misread passages of Scripture to suit their own desires. Not so unlike certain Muslim scholars today...

I'm really confused as to what your question is, can you please clarify it so I can try to help?

Such a topic is outside the realms of a Quran centric/Quranist viewpoint. There is no mention of Umar in the Quran.

Salam Nura
I didn't find anything about your post to be 'unacceptable'. I just needed some time to think over your post.

Thank you Sister Nura for your thoughtful response. While I am not certain of your conclusions, your deep knowledge of the Quran is always an inspiration to me.

The only thing I can think of is that 45:14 refers to non-kufr non-Muslims and that 9:113 refers to kufr, especially those who attacked the believers and broke treaties (in the context of Surah 9). This finds support in how in the next verse it talks about following Abraham's example in not asking for forgiveness for Azar, a cruel, evil man who tried to stone and burn Abraham alive. What do you guys (especially Joseph) think about this?

How do we reconcile 9:113 with 45:14 without resorting to the blasphemy of abrogation??
