relevance of religion
« on: October 25, 2013, 12:20:30 PM »
Peace to you all,

“It is customary to blame secular science and anti-religious philosophy for the eclipse of religion in modern society. It would be more honest to blame religion for its own defeats. Religion declined not because it was refuted, but because it became irrelevant, dull, oppressive, insipid. When faith is completely replaced by creed, worship by discipline, love by habit; when the crisis of today is ignored because of the splendor of the past; when faith becomes an heirloom rather than a living fountain; when religion speaks only in the name of authority rather than with the voice of compassion--its message becomes meaningless.”
― Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, God in Search of Man: A Philosophy of Judaism

How are the Muslims accept a Rabbi's concept as the Islam has kept the  pace with modern world which is why the US President Thomas Jefferson read Quran & try to implement some of its commandment. We Muslims having a Book of Wisdom revealed to Mohammad SA by Allah swt need not read any other things on Deen. Thanks for sharing

May entire creation be filled with Peace & Joy & Love & Light

Salaam.

"Eclipse of religion" is due to the great lethargy of those who swear by the Qur'an - their utter sloth regarding the propagation of Al Qur'an.

“…when religion speaks only in the name of authority rather than with the voice of compassion--its message becomes meaningless.”

In reply, to say the least,

"…who establish Salaath, and spend out of that which We have provided them…and it is they who are sure of the Judgment (to come). (2:1-4)

“…We sent after them Jesus the son of Mary, and bestowed on him the Gospel; and We ordained in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy…” (57:27)

[Quran does not differentiate between God’s Prophets. For, all of them strived to propagate the Core (Cardinal, Basic) Values only. Therefore, he who follows any one of the Prophets invariably follows every one of the Prophets! (Allah’s Peace and Blessings be on them all.) In other words, those who follow - constantly, diligently, and consistently - the Core Values propagated by all the Prophets of God. Naturally, their hearts are brimming with compassion and mercy!]

“Then became one of those who believed, and enjoined patient perseverance (and constancy and self restraint), and enjoined deeds of kindness and compassion.” (90:17)

Seest thou one who denies the Judgment (to come)?

Then such is the one who repulses the orphan,

And encourages not the feeding of the indigent.

So woe to the worshippers (musalleen or namaazees)

Who neglect (the spirit of) their Salaath

Those who (want to) show off (their religiousness),

And refuse to supply even neighborly needs. (107:1-7)
