Cheraman Jum'ah Masjid (Malayalam: ചേരമാൻ ജുമാ മസ്ജിദ്‌) is a mosque in Methala, Kodungallur Taluk, Thrissur district in the Indian state of Kerala.[1] The Cheraman Masjid is said to be the very first mosque in India, built in 629 AD by Malik lbn Dinar. It is believed that this mosque was first renovated and reconstructed in the 11th century AD. Many non-Muslims conduct initiation ceremonies to the world of letters of their children here.[1]
History
Kerala Vyasan Kunhikuttan Thampuran is of the opinion that an ancient Buddha vihar was gifted to the Muslims to establish a mosque.[1][dubious – discuss] Since ancient times, trade relations between Arabia and the Indian subcontinent were active. Even before Islam had been established in Arabia, Arab traders visited the Malabar region, which was a major link between the ports of South and Southeast Asia. With the advent of Islam, the Arab merchants became carriers of the new religion and they propagated it wherever they went.[2] Cheraman Perumal, the Chera king, went to Arabia where he met the Prophet and embraced Islam and changed his name to Tajuddin.[3] From there he had sent letters with Malik Ibn Dinar to his relatives in Kerala, asking them to be courteous to the latter.[1]According to Burnell he was a contemporary of Islamic Prophet Muhammad.[4]
Belief goes that a group of Arabs led by Malik Bin Deenar and Malik bin Habib arrived in north Kerala and constructed a Masjid at Kodungalloor, naming it after their contemporary Cheraman Perumal.[5]
The mosque has an ancient oil lamp which always burns and which is believed to be more than a thousand years old. People of all religions bring oil for the lamp as offering. Like most mosques in Kerala, this mosque allows entry for Non-Muslims.[citation needed]. The then president of India Abdul Kalam is among the notable visitors to this mosque.

Salam All, Eventhough Bro Joseph Islam has proved that the SALATH was performed by Muslims giving the history narrations of Christians that muslims used to pray & fast. Here is another proof of muslims Praying Salath in Cherumal mosque in Kerala India during the ministry of our Prophet.

Shalom / peace bro Sardar......despite bro Joseph's article which you accept (as proven)....why do you have to keep trying to find more evidence that Muslims prayed and fasted??? can i politely ask who are you trying to prove this too???>>>>I notice you have spoken about dr. shabbir before on this forum....you will find that many on this forum don't really care what he thinks?????>>>>

Salam Bro Duster, In addition to what Bro Joseph brought the proof of Muslims were praying & fasting
I try to mention another proof of Salath being prayed right from the ministry of Prophet in India while
the Hindu King met the prophet & got constructed a mosque in India. There is nothing wrong in presenting the facts.

Dear Sardar Miyan,

Did you read the indian historian's perspective about King Charaman? I read an article in WikiIslam about an indian king meeting with our Prophet pbuh. There the indian historical sources say another story that the alleged king was born 250 years after Prophet's demise and the mosque is dated to be 629 A.D. is fishy, needs carbon dating :P (if applicable)

Sardar Miyan

Brother The news of Wikislam is wrong but the news of Wikipedia is authentic & right. Indian PM Modi is going to visit this mosque in coming months  president Kalam had already visited long back. The Raja of Kerala had aleard met our prophet & gave him Pickle as present. Wikiislam is anti Islam site hence not believe able. Thanks

Just because wikiislam is anti islamic, it does not mean every article in it is false, especially when the author gives references and this pickle story is taken from hadees corpus, the authenticity of which is not greater than the other historians of the world like that of india. So why believe in one and not the other? Hadees or other historical stories, all are inherently flawed and biased, needs a lot of crirical evaluation by listening to both sides. Anyway you must also know that this alleged mosque faced east instead of west towards kaabah!

I'm sorry to say this, but honestly, y'all are totally missing the point of this post. Instead of getting into technicalities that will never be solved, why don't we just accept the point of this message? The early Muslims prayed and fasted. If Sardar wants to share more evidence of this with us, then it's perfectly good and beneficial.
