Right hand and not left
« on: July 25, 2018, 09:38:17 PM »
Salaam all
I would like to learn the significance of the "right hand" mentioned in these verses
Why right over left?
Not the right side as in other verses but "right hand" as Allah refers to his right hand. I believe this is symbolic but in what way?

then he turned and struck them with his right arm.
-Sura As-Saaffat, Ayah 93

These people have no grasp of God’s true measure. On the Day of Resurrection, the whole earth will be in His grip. The heavens will be rolled up in His right hand- Glory be to Him! He is far above the partners they ascribe to Him!-
-Sura Az-Zumar, Ayah 67

We would certainly have seized his right hand
-Sura Al-Haqqah, Ayah 45

You never recited any Scripture before We revealed this one to you; you never wrote one down with your hand. If you had done so, those who follow falsehood might have had cause to doubt.
-Sura Al-Ankabut, Ayah 48

‘Moses, what is that in your right hand?’
-Sura Ta-Ha, Ayah 17

There are other verses that talk about records being given to the successful in their right hand.
It is is difficult to ignore the significance of this right over left and its understandable that when seperating between right and wrong it's the right and wrong that actually matters and not the side they are on, but still the right hand seems to be favoured over the left.
Did the Arabs traditionally favour right over the left? Do other scriptures Alude to any sort of right over left preference?

Kind regards

for arabs right always better and superior to left. thats is a cultural phenomenon which again supports the idea that quran must be evaluated based on a cultural and historical framework.
