Keeping a Boyfriend or a Girlfriend

First of all I would like to thank you for all the answers you have helped me to find, also for the great the work that you are doing.

Secondly I, would also like to know if it's permissible in the light of the Quran to have a boyfriend or a girlfriend, without having any sexual intercourse. I tried looking at your Forum for the answer but i couldn't find anything.

The definition of 'boyfriend' and 'girlfriend' has an extremely wide berth, so I would incline to ask one what they actually mean by this.

However, in my humble view from a Quran's perspective, the scope of interaction between two unmarried genders is given in the article below.
