Assalam alikum i was just wondering what does 2:42 mean does it mean like we can't watch TV movies because yes there good but also bad films and shows so does that mean we shouldn't watch TV and movies etc and books jazzakkallah

Peace. I take it to be a command that you don't conceal that which you know of the truth, in falsehood.

Dear Yahya,
I believe if you put the verse into its context as follows:

O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I have bestowed upon you and fulfill My covenant [upon you] that I will fulfill your covenant [from Me], and be afraid of [only] Me. (40) And believe in what I have sent down confirming that which is [already] with you, and be not the first to disbelieve in it. And do not exchange My signs for a small price, and fear [only] Me. (41) And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it]. (42)

You'll find that its a commandment to the children of Israel to not conceal the truth or mix it with falsehood.(As Eliiah said). However, when it comes to books, movies, etc. One should simply stay away from those that go against the Quran's teachings. Like media that has obscene material.

Ok thanks so in movies if any scences of bad stuff come up we can should just fast forward or skip those scences witch are bad and then just watch the good bits on that films is that right jazzakkallah

And of course  never ever watch or read  disgusting stuff like porn etc

Peace. Where do you take all of that from?

What do you mean if your talking about the verse I meant I thought it meant don't mix good with bad etc

Peace. That statement is directed to Ahmad also.

As 2:42 just states,

وَلَا and don't
تَلْبِسُوا dress (as in "I dress up in pants, and a shirt")
الْحَقَّ the truth
بِالْبَاطِلِ with the falsehood

Then (and this doesn't translate word for word):

وَتَكْتُمُوا الْحَقَّ وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ and [don't] conceal the truth when you know [it].

Peace. I think it would be reasonable to take that from statements of our Lord such as from 24:30-31 which state: "قُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِم" ("tell those who believe of the men to reduce from their sight"), and "وَقُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِن" ("and tell those who believe of the women to reduce fron their sight").

Dear Eliiah,

I said:

QuoteYou'll find that its a commandment to the children of Israel to not conceal the truth or mix it with falsehood.(As Eliiah said). However, when it comes to books, movies, etc. One should simply stay away from those that go against the Quran's teachings. Like media that has obscene material.

I mean that the part about books and movies are not related to the Verse 2:42. And I agree that it should be be taken from other verses like 24:30-31 which you have shared.
