Jinn: A Mythical Creature?
ON JULY 9, 2014 BY SHEIKH MUHAMMAD FARJAD
paranormal image for jinn    “Jinn “, a most misunderstood and mysterious word . Generally, three theories are found to be concerned with Jinn: 1. Jinns are invisible creatures , made of plasma, They can disguise themselves. 2. Jinns are invisible creatures. They harm people and control their bodies in mysterious ways. Only a Mullah can purify people from Jinn with the help of spiritual power. 3. Jinn is nothing but inner evil power of human beings. “What is Jinn?”- InshaAllah! You will be able to deduce the answer to all your questions and queries reading through this article

Why Jinn cannot be other creature than human beings? Reason # 1– Jinn & Ins = Bashar

bashar

Through out the Qur’an, it is told that all the messengers were Bashar(human):

Their messengers said to them, “We are only ‘Bashar’ like you, but Allah confers favor upon whom He wills of His servants. It has never been for us to bring you evidence except by permission of Allah . And upon Allah let the believers rely.(Al Qur’an 14:11)

And what prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them except that they said, “Has Allah sent a Bashar/Human as messenger?” ( Al Qur’an 17:94)

“You are but only Bashar/Human like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful.” (Al Qur’an 26:154)

“You are only Bashar/Human like us and verily, we think that you are one of the liars!” (Al Qur’an 26:186)
If a person claims to believe on Qur’an, heshould consider all messengers as Bashar. Now, throwing light on another important verse of Qur’an:

“O you jinns and Ins, did you not receive messengers from among you, who narrated to you My revelations, and warned you about the meeting of this day? They will say, “We bear witness against ourselves.” They were totally preoccupied with the worldly life, and they will bear witness against themselves that they were disbelievers.” (Al Qur’an 6:130)
In 6:130, Allah says that He sent messengers amongst Jinn and Ins. How is it possible? if Jinn is the name of other creature than human beings(Bashar). Because, in previous verses Allah clarifies that all the messengers were Bashar(Humans). It is possible only in one case; If jinn and Ins are considered two groups of same community(Mankind=Bashar)

14:11,17:94 All the Messengers = Bashar

6:130 Messengers = Jinn & Ins

Thus, Bashar=Jinn & Ins
Reason # 2– A Beautiful Sunnah of Allah

Say, “If angels walked about and dwelled on the earth, We would have sent an angel from the heaven as messenger.” (Al Qur’an 17:95)
One of the beautiful Sunnah of Allah is mentioned in above verse that He sends messengers amongst those who would receive the message. If the jinn meant to be other creature than human , then why did Allah send human and visible messengers to them ? Due to the lack of understanding, two new claims may be made for misinterpreting the verse 17:95: 1. It isn’t the responsibility of Jinn to believe on messengers. It’s up to their own will to believe. Answer:It’s the responsibility of Jinn and Ins both to believe on all messengers(6:130). As long as, the matter is concerned with compulsion then there is no compulsion in Deen(2:256). Free will has been given not only to Jinn but Ins also(10:99) 2. Allah sent messengers to Invisible creature(Jinn) amongst them.Answer: That claim is nothing, but the result of lack of understanding. All the messengers were Bashar(14:11; 17:94) and same messengers were chosen for both(Jinn & Ins). Because, there were some christian(72:3) and Jewish Jinn(46:30) also, and Qur’an is reminder for Bashar(Jinn & Ins)

Say, “I am only ‘Bashar’ like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord – let him do righteous work and not associate in the service of his Lord anyone.” (Al Qur’an 18:11)

” …And this is nothing but a reminder(ذِكۡرَىٰ) to humans(Bashar)” (Al Qur’an 74:31)

“A warning(نَذِيرً۬ا) to humans(Bashar)” (Al Qur’an 74:36)
Reason # 3– The Word “Rijāl” for Jinn

“There were men(Rijāl) from among Ins who used to seek help from the men(Rijāl) among the Jinn, but they only helped increase them in sin.” (Al Qur’an 72:6)
Rijal, what does it mean? Have a look: rijall 1Rā-Jīm-Lām= walk, to go on foot. to comb, to let down, behave like a man; to walk all the way, to become a man, reach the age of manhood, grow up; to act like a man

“Exempted are the feeble, whether men(ٱلرِّجَالِ) or women, and children who are unable to devise a plan and to find a way out.”(Al Qur’an 4:98)

“And then and there a man(رَجُلٌ۬) came running from the other side of the city, and said, “O Moses! The chiefs are considering your case with a view to kill you. You better leave immediately. Verily, I am of those who wish you well.”(Al Qur’an 28:20) “Muhammad is not the father of any man(رِّجَالِ) among you, but he is Allah’s Messenger and the Closing Seal of all Prophets. And Allah, indeed, is Knower of all things.”(Al Qur’an 33:40)“You approach men(ٱلرِّجَالَ)with lust in preference to women. Nay, but you are a people crossing all bounds.” (Al Qur’an 7:81)
If Jinn is the title for supernatural being, made of plasma, why did Allah use the term “Rijal” for them ? While the meaning of Rijal is Men.

Some people of towns used to seek shelter with some of the nomads and increased them in confusion.(Al Qur’an 72:6)
Reason # 4–Chapter Al Rahaman1512685_10152170210826466_5043854451323089125_nMostly people use Chapter Al-Rahman in support of their mythical theory on jinn. Perhaps, most of them haven’t pondered much on that chapter, wherein the chapter actually contradicts their self-made theory about Jinn. Here is a sample of verses from that chapter: Al Rahman(Chapter 55) 11 In it are fruits, and date palms with their hanging fruit. 12 And grains and the spices. 13 So which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? 20 A barrier is placed between them, which they do not cross. 21 So which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? 22 Out of both of them comes pearls and coral. 23 So which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? 24 And to Him are the ships that roam the sea like flags. 25 So which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? 41 The guilty will be recognized by their features; they will be taken by the forelocks(بِٱلنَّوَٲصِى) and the feet(ٱلۡأَقۡدَامِ). 42 So which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? 43 This is Hell that the criminals used to deny. 44 They will move between it and a boiling liquid. 45 So which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? 50 In them are two springs, flowing. 51 So which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? :52 In them will be of every fruit, in pairs. 53 So which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? 54 Reclining on luxurious carpets(فُرُشِۭ) lined with rich brocade(إِسۡتَبۡرَقٍ۬‌ۚ), the fruit of both Gardens at hand. 55 So which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? 56 Their beautiful mates were never touched by any human or jinn. If one focus on these verses in depth, the chapter doesn’t prove jinn as other creature than a human being. Does that chapter really prove Jinn as other creature than human beings? how comes the ships, pearls, hanging fruits, mates, and fountains be marvels for the invisible creature, physically made of fire?(52:11,12,22,24,50,52,54 and 56) How can they have forelocks and feet?(52:41)

Two verses about Jinn

We have committed to Hell multitudes of jinns and humans. They have minds/heart(قُلُوبٌ۬) with which they do not understand, eyes(أَعۡيُنٌ۬) with which they do not see, and ears(ءَاذَانٌ۬) with which they do not hear. They are like animals; no, they are far worse – they are totally unaware.(Al Qur’an 7:179)

The guilty will be recognized by their features; they will be taken by the forelocks(بِٱلنَّوَٲصِى) and the feet.(ٱلۡأَقۡدَامِ). (Al Qur’an 55:41)
Conclusion: The root of “Jinn” is “jīm nūn nūn”, which means concealed, darkness, insanity/madness, hidden or rarely seen. In Qur’an, it is used for: a.People, who are seldom seen, Nomads.(7:179; 17:88; 6:130) b. Inner evil power of oneself(6:100) and unseen forces-Malayik(Angels).(37:158) c. Baby in the womb(53:32) d. Darkness(6:76) e.Madness(23:70,25; 34:8,46) JannatThe word “Jannat” is also from same root “jīm nūn nūn”, which means hidden garden. Amongst Jinn (Nomads) , some are righteous and some aren’t (72:11) . Thus , evil ones will be punished (72:15) and righteous will get their reward (55:44 and 46)

Al Qur’an 51:56 “And I have not created the ‘jinn’ and the ‘ins’ but that they obey (serve) Me alone”.
SOME CLAIMS AND THEIR ANSWERS 1. Jinn were created from fire(55:15) and Ins were created from clay(55:14) Ans. The word “Jinn”, is also used as Evil power prompted in an uncivilized human mind.As 21:37 convince that Ins is created out of haste. Creation of Jinn from fire and Ins from clay isn’t physical but metaphysical.Physically, bashar(Jinn & Ins) was created from Tawraab”Earth or Dust”(30:20)

Tauraaaab

Qur’an 15:27 Before humanity became civilized, We created the caveman from flames
2. If “Jinn” doesn’t refer the other creature than human beings, why were Men used to worship them?(34:41-42) Ans. Read the “Conclusion” again… Jinn doesn’t mean only humans. It is used for anything concealed or hidden. The word used for worshiping is “Abudu”, which has a root of “ayn bā dāl”, and it means to obey or to be slave. It doesn’t mean only to prostrate physically. Does a slave prostrate physically his master? Here, Jinn means evil power and men used to worship their evil desires:

Al Qur’an 25:43 Have you seen the one who has taken as god his own desire(هَوَٮٰهُ)? Could you be an advocate for him?

6:100 is speaking about Divine Forces(Malaik). Jinn & Ins are created only to obey/serve God alone.

Al Qur’an 51:56 And I have not created the ‘jinn’ and the ‘ins’ but that they obey(لِيَعۡبُدُونِ) Me alone.
3.If “Jinn” doesn’t refer the other creature than human beings, why Muhammad couldn’t know about their presence?(72:1) Ans. Here is an image, distinct nomads from Urbanites:200244581-003While, it was the Arab, where it wasn’t easy to distinct Nomads from Urbanites, especially, when they are in hundreds or thousands. 4. If “Jinn” aren’t other creature than human beings, how would they pass beyond the heaven? (67:5) Ans. It’s metaphorical, It is not particular only for Jinn but Ins too. That idiom is used for Ins too

Al Qur’an 55:33 O you jinns and humans, if you can penetrate/pass beyond(تَنفُذُواْ) the outer limits of the heavens and the earth, go ahead and penetrate. You cannot penetrate without authorization.

Al Qur’an 55:34 Which of your Lord’s marvels can you deny?

Al Qur’an 55:35 You get bombarded with projectiles of fire and metal, and you cannot win.( عَلَيۡكُمَا=against both of you)
5. All Jinn are Satan!

Ans.

Shaytaan

Satan/Shaytan is not the name of a particular species.

” In the same way We assigned to each prophet an enemy, evil humans and evil jinn. They suggest alluring words to one another in order to deceive- if it had been your Lord’s will, [Prophet], they would not have done this: leave them to their inventions-” (Al Qur’an 6:112)

“That whispers in the hearts of people from the hidden psyche that rationalizes the evil, as well as the temptations that come from people.” (Al Qur’an 114:5-6)
17:81

Bro Hamzeh Assalam,I fully agree with Jozeph Islam's article about Jinn mainly because the creation of Jinn is entirely different from Ins secondly Allah calling them different names as jinn O Ins.  As some people have posted their views differently I wanted Bro JAI to express his views. Thanks for sharing.
