It is often claimed that the blessed Rasool was sent as Rehmat-lil-Aalameen.

Is this title in the Qur'an or based on secondary sources?

The reference is Quranic, but it is usually quoted out of context with a view to assert a particular theological stance with respect to the Prophet. Please see the following article which I trust will address the matter, God willing.
