Can somebody be responsible for the sins of others ?

For instance, someone goes to a scholar to ask about an issue.
The scholar tells the person what to do.
On the day of judgement, it turns out that what he told the person was wrong.
Will the scholar be responsible for the sin of the person ? And the person will not be accountable.
What if the scholar did not know the right thing and he was advising to the best of his ability ?

Salam Alaykum.


If a person goes astray, he or she will still be responsible for this and will be punished because God told us not to follow anyone blindly and to verify everything before accepting as truth.

And as for the scholars, if anyone is led astray by the scholars with their un-Quranic doctrines, the scholars would deserve the double punishment for misleading to erroneous beliefs:

"Hence, on Resurrection Day they shall bear the full weight of their own burdens, as well as some of the burdens of those ignorant ones whom they have led astray: oh, how evil the load with which they shall be burdened!" (16:25)

Those who have been misled will blame those who misled them and vise versa..

One version:

Mutual Blaming

37:27
They will come to each other, questioning and blaming one another.

وَأَقبَلَ بَعضُهُم عَلىٰ بَعضٍ يَتَساءَلونَ

37:28
They will say (to their leaders), "You used to come to us from the right side."

قالوا إِنَّكُم كُنتُم تَأتونَنا عَنِ اليَمينِ

37:29
They will respond, "It is you who were not believers.

قالوا بَل لَم تَكونوا مُؤمِنينَ

37:30
"We never had any power over you; it is you who were wicked.

وَما كانَ لَنا عَلَيكُم مِن سُلطٰنٍ بَل كُنتُم قَومًا طٰغينَ

37:31
"We justly incurred our Lord's judgment; now we have to suffer.

فَحَقَّ عَلَينا قَولُ رَبِّنا إِنّا لَذائِقونَ

37:32
"We misled you, only because we were astray."

فَأَغوَينٰكُم إِنّا كُنّا غٰوينَ

37:33
Thus, together they will all partake of the retribution on that day.

فَإِنَّهُم يَومَئِذٍ فِى العَذابِ مُشتَرِكونَ

37:34
This is how we requite the guilty.

إِنّا كَذٰلِكَ نَفعَلُ بِالمُجرِمينَ


Another version:

They Followed Their Parents Blindly

37:69
They found their parents astray.

إِنَّهُم أَلفَوا ءاباءَهُم ضالّينَ

37:70
And they blindly followed in their footsteps.

فَهُم عَلىٰ ءاثٰرِهِم يُهرَعونَ

37:71
Most of the previous generations have strayed in the same manner.

وَلَقَد ضَلَّ قَبلَهُم أَكثَرُ الأَوَّلينَ

37:72
We have sent to them warners.

وَلَقَد أَرسَلنا فيهِم مُنذِرينَ

37:73
Note the consequences for those who have been warned.

فَانظُر كَيفَ كانَ عٰقِبَةُ المُنذَرينَ


So it is a very serious matter. Do not follow blindly ,check and ponder GOD s word.[17:36].

The consequence is frightening.
