How do Quranists deal with the different versions of the Quran?
« on: September 26, 2018, 07:53:51 AM »
There are many different versions of the Quran, different variants that were compiled *after* the prophet Muhammad died. The different versions of the Quran are detailed on their authenticity following the same narration trail of the Hadiths (if there are trustworthy people in the trail, then that version of the Quran is regarded 'sahih').

So the version of the Quran we use today used the same narration methodology the Hadiths did. So if you accept the Quran and the Methodology of the Quran, shouldn't you also accept the Hadiths?

NO! ...because the transmission is not the same. See illustration below:

With regards different 'versions' you talk about, see below:

There have been many discussions on this forum already on this topic.  See some below between brothers Joseph and Bassam Zawadi:

1 - Joseph Islam's Article "THE SEVEN AHRUF, RECITATIONS (QIRAAT), HAFS AND WARSH"
http://quransmessage.com/forum/index.php?topic=840.msg3183#msg3183
2 - Joseph Islam's Article "THE COMPILATION OF THE QURAN"

3 - Joseph Islam's Article "HOW DO WE KNOW THAT THE QURAN WAS FULLY PRESERVED? ...."
http://quransmessage.com/forum/index.php?topic=837.msg3105#msg3105

Lastly, a lot of us like brother Joseph don't identify ourselves as 'Quranists'.....'Quran-centric' is a better description of the approach.....

    • What does The Quran really say?

A commonly stated argument by those who wish to raise traditional hearsay/ahadith to divine-status level is that its compilation was the same as The Quran.

Is that really true? Lets look at the simple and obvious facts...

The Quran = God's Word
Ahadith = man's word

The Quran = 100% fact/truth/perfect
Ahadith = mix of truth and falsehood (hence weak and strong hadith)

The Quran = recorded under the DIRECT supervision of prophet Muhammad
Ahadith = not recorded under the DIRECT supervision of prophet Muhammad

The Quran = written AND memorised word for word as soon as it was transmitted
Ahadith = no-one ever claimed to record and memorise ahadith word for word as soon as it was transmitted

The Quran = protected explicitly by God Himself as stated in The Quran
Ahadith = no such explicit protection stated

The Quran = no Muslim doubts its credibility
Ahadith = each sect has its own versions, weak & strong ones etc

The Quran = in-built verification mechanism, e.g. challenges others to find inconsistancy, bring a chapter like it etc.
Ahadith = no such in-built mechanism, full of inconsistancies etc.
