40:7 - What does Throne mean ?
« on: May 30, 2013, 07:24:19 PM »
40:7
[Progressive Muslims]
Those who carry the throne and all those around it glorify the praise of their Lord, and believe in Him, and they seek forgiveness for those who have believed: "Our Lord, You encompass all things with mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who repented and followed Your path, and spare them the agony of Hell."

40:7
[Abdel Haleem]
Those [angels] who carry the Throne and those who surround it celebrate the praise of their Lord and have faith in Him. They beg forgiveness for the believers: ‘Our Lord, You embrace all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who turn to You and follow Your path. Save them from the pains of Hell

Dear Adil,

May peace be with you.

'Arsh' is synonymous with authority. It is an expression of power, governance, sovereignty and dominion over a kingdom. It is not merely a reference to a physical seat. [1]

On God's authority, angels are also entasked to carry out His commands. Please see post [2] below.

I hope that helps, God willing.
Joseph.
