Salam Brother

Trying to present my take on this matter.

I think that to understand all the verses of the Quran is near to impossible. And it is also said, that everyone will not understand some verses except those who are firmly grounded in knowledge (3:7).

There are two types of verses in the Quran. Muhkam which is very clear and mutashabih, which need pondering over (tadabbur) to understand. With the advance of time knowledge advances and the meaning of mutashabih verses becomes more clear, or we can say, we get different ways to understand the meaning of the verses. So, understanding Quran is a a continuous process. And this could be a miracle. Because no other book is like this type.

To understand something we must at first be seriously involved with the matter. If one try then may be Allah will allow him to grasp the meaning of it.
In the Verse 255 in Bakara Allah said, `Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth.'

So  in 10:39 it could be meant that as the disbelievers disbelieve, reject, don't pay attention, they dont research, don't ponder over the verses so they are unaware or unable to grasp the meaning of what was said in the verses especially in the mutashabih verses. They simply deny at first hearing saying that this is strange, this is magic..etc.  And patience is very important to understand something. In Musa (pbuh) case (18:65-82) we see that loosing patience is not good to learn great things.

So if they did not deny at first hearing, if they tried to understand, probably they could encompass its interpretation which `has not yet come to them'.

Salam.

Thanks for your response. I never mind any response from any forum members, specially yours, which are most of the times, if not always, very useful. I think your input and the link you kindly shared, the explanation of 57:52 by Brother Joseph, will help me to reconcile the issue.

Actually I got a little bit puzzled with the wordings ` and the scripture which He hath sent to His Messenger'. So far as i checked, in no other verses it was said so directly mentioning messenger accepting scripture in that way.

Thanks again.

Dear Brother Joseph

As-salamu Alaykum.

Reading your article `END OF PROPHETHOOD - CONTINUATION OF MESSENGERS?' it becomes clear that Prophets recieved scriptures and Messengers reaffirms it. But in the following verse (4:136) it seems that Messengers also got scriptures. Am I missing anything to understand this verse?

4:136 O ye who believe! Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and the scripture which He hath sent to His Messenger and the scripture which He sent to those before (him). Any who denieth Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Day of Judgment, hath gone far, far astray.

Salam .

I have a feeling regarding the verses where Allah speaks about the End time.
Many times it was said through prophet that, when they (the then Arabs) ask about the end time, tell them it is near. soon. etc.
How come, after 1400 years this nearness is not reached yet.

One answer of this question is regarding relativity. And it was clearly stated that His one day is equal to our thousand years.

But i take this response from one other viewpoint. When i am an Arab of 1400 years back (or even now) and I am told that the end time is near, i think technically its related to my death time. After my or anyone's death the Qiyamah is very near. Because when I will be resurrected I wouldn't  have any knowledge about the time gap. So end time is very near for everyone.

Just sharing the thought.

Best Wishes.

General Discussions / Re: Love for Allah and the prophet

Salam.

I think,  many verses of the Quran are timebound.  Addressee of the verses are purely the then people of Arabia, when the prophet was alive. Yet we can get suggestions through those verses.
This might be that type of verse. The prophet needed immense support from his fellow believers regarding building  a new community, actively participating in war, charitable activities etc. So it was the guidence from Almighty for that time.
Devotion to prophet, through activities, is not relevance now, as he is not with us. But we must acknowledge his unbelievable effort, his sacrifice to fulfill his duty of risalat. We must love him, make dua for him, that's ok. But putting his name beside God in mosques looks very odd and it is some sort of shirk, i think.

General Discussions / regarding Verse 3:93
July 04, 2021, 04:59:41 PM
Dear Brothers and Sisters
Salam.

In verse 3:93 it is said that, Israel (pbuh) made some food unlawful (haram) for himself. Is it suitable for a prophet to make something lawful or unlawful? Notice that in 66:1 Allah discouraged Muhammad (pbuh) to do such things.

I must have missed something.

Though the sorrow, the lamentation has been spread out across the globe, the present situation is nothing in comparison to the judgement day. Yet, how much do we care about that time? We are too much afraid of death. Aren't we? At one hand we are talking about our miser, our frightful future, on the other hand we are passing our time gossiping, seeing movies, playing vedio games and so on.

Indeed, the holy book described us perfectly through our doomed ancestors.

May Allah save us and guide us to the right path.

Dear Brother Joseph

As salamu alykum.

Recently many countries abandoned congressional prayer, even Jumua due to coronavirus issue. I think its reasonable. But  some clerics and their followers in my country oppose this restriction. They say, congressional prayers must be performed in mosque at any cost. The say Jumua prayer can not be performed in home. Even they dont care about hadith references regarding this issue (though they are hadith lovers).

Allah said, one must do at his best. But is their any other explicit or implicit verses in the Quran where Allah allows believers to stay at home in such time of dificulties rather than to go to mosque.

By the way, there are some languages (such as Bengali, my language), we have words like "tini, uni, tar etc." which are gender neutral words for "he/she, his/her etc.". Therefore, in such languages, Allah need not be referred to as either of the genders. For "He/She said", we would write it as "Tini bollen", without having to specify the person's gender.

Why the pronoun He is for Allah?

Dear Brothers
Salam.

I don't know whether this is worthy to discuss. But as the question came in my mind i convinced myself saying that :
1. Its His dicission to choose the pronoun, we have nothing to do it.
2. Every language has its own rules with limitations. As The Quran was revealed in Arabic language, it just followed its rule. Did not create any new pronoun to denote His gender-free being.

Is there any other reason to use He for Allah?

General Discussions / meaning of baʿūḍatan

As Salamu Alaikum.

Would you please help me to understand the meaning of baʿūḍatan (2:26). In most of the translations it is described as mosquito/gnat. I Didn't find the word in Lane's or Badawi & Haleem's or Omar's dictionary.
