Polygamy by Hazrat Ali & his son Hasan
« on: March 06, 2015, 06:19:57 AM »
Hazrat Ali had Nine wives & his son Hasan also had Nine. The question is had they chosen their wives
from the mothers of Orphans as per Quranic order ? If not they have gone against injungsion of Quran. And further increased from permissible number 4 to 9.
May entire creation be filled with Peace & Joy & Love & Light

Dear Sardar,

As-salamu alaykum

Whether the personality you mention had nine wives or not is not a Quranic matter. These are stories that are based on Islamic secondary sources and yet, your question assumes that this information is factually correct or even relevant. As I trust you will appreciate, these sources of information have very dubious origins. [1]

Either way, I have already discussed the concept of multiple marriages in a dedicated article [2] and related sentiments were also discussed in a recent post [3]. Please may I kindly refer you to these sources which you may find useful.

In a nutshell, the number or the reasons for multiple marriages is not a Quranic matter. Even the prophet arguably married for many different reasons including beauty.

033.052
"It is not lawful for thee (to marry more) women after this, nor to change them for (other) wives, even though their beauty attract thee, except any thy right hand should possess: and God does watch over all things"

What matters most from a Quranic perspective is the need for justice (4:3) and how these marriages are dealt with under the overarching guiding scope as given by the Quran.

I hope this helps, God willing
Joseph
