Some clarification on halal food.
« on: April 08, 2015, 01:18:17 AM »
I understand that livestock must be slaughtered in a lawful way but is it Haram if God's name is not proclaimed over it? Like if no name was proclaimed over it?

And if one lives in a non Muslim area, were finding meat like that would be impossible or very difficult to manage , is one allowed to make due with what is available ?

Meat is not necessarily only part of food while one can use vegetables / eggs/ Fish/ Pulse/as a part of food and never go for meat. Another option is Kosher but not any non Zahiba food.

Even the slaughter made by Christians can also be eaten as during the period of our Prophet mulims
used to ask the Prophet about the meat sent by Christians and the Prophet used tell that they could
eat as the Christian bein Ahle Kitab

Ok, but what about about animals where no God's name has been invoked upon.

5:3
Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah

Is this verse banning only meat which other gods name have been invoked, or banning all meat which doesn't  have Allah's name invoked on it?

Salaam,

If you read the article by Joseph that Zara gave you a link to, it is very insightful. The crux is proclamation of God's name over the meat at the time of slaughter.

For example , nowadays, it is my understanding that when the Jews slaughter their meat using kosher methods, they don't neccesarily pronounce God's name over it. That would then be impermissble for us to eat.

Jews do pronounce God's name while slaughtering but with some difference the person who does the
Slaughtering will pronounce God's name once before till he completes the slaghter instead of uttering
each time.

Even Chritians utter God's name while slaughtering which is why Muslims are permitted to eat their
slaughtered permitted animals.

It depends, what if they utter 'in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit?

Assalam It is reported that Muslims used to ask prophet whether to eat the meat sent by Christians?
Where upon the prophet asked them to eat as they call Gods name while slaughtering. Therefore why
should you ask which God's name they were taking. We should therefore need not go into details as
Trinity is not the basic belief of Christians and which is not mentioned in the Bible.

I think Truth Seeker is right because one has take Allah's name on each slaughter instead of only once
for slaughtering all
