Is Sectarian is Shirk

Some say that Sectatrian is Shirk? Is is fact ? What does Quran say?

The Quran instructs us not to divide into sects regarding religion. It encourages brotherhood and unity in order to create harmony and cohesion.

No Quran has instructed not to divide but the question is does that kind of divide is so severe the which may fall in the category of "Shirk" ?

Well if some people are making these divisions a part of their desire, superseding God's instructions then I suppose you could argue that it is shirk.

There is a verse in the Quran that talks of those people who make their desire their God so I can understand why some people say that sectarianism is akin to shirk.
