Dear Sister
Salamun Alaikum.
The Shariah guidelines in the Quran are often very different from what is practiced by Muslims around the world. In some respects they are unrecognisable. There is no stoning to death in the Quranic law. This is based on later traditions.
The Hijab is not a compulsory directive in the Quran (there is no verse for this). It is based on a choice which women have when they assess modesty in light of the overarching Quranic directives.
[1]The Islam portrayed in the Quran is often very different from how it is practiced. We should not confuse what people practice in Islamic countries and God's guidance enshrined in His revelations.
We should study the Quran for ourselves.
There is a section on my site dealing with misconceptions in the Quran dealing with Women related issues. This may be of some benefit.
