True to his being "a servant among Our servants", as God says while mentioning him for the first time (18:65) - and He mentions him afterwards in pronouns only - he tells Moses in unequivocal terms, that his wonderful accomplishments were only "a beneficence from your Lord..."(18:82).

Moses' man Friday is not the central figure. So he has had only a limited mention.

The fish seems to have been caught while they halted at the rock, and, due to some negligence, it wriggled out and disappeared into the water. Satan tried to throw a spanner in the works. But the delayed return to the spot in the hope of securing the fish proved to be the exact time when the unnamed Servant of God was within view of Moses.

Yes, the letting them or not letting them do a particular thing depends on God's Will.

And whatever God wills, always has an intelligent reason behind it.

The three episodes of the unnamed Servant of God illustrate this very point.

"...And I did it not of my own accord..." (18:82).

There is nothing superfluous, haphazard, cruel, or unwise going on in God's Domain.

We mortals may not be able to fully grasp the import of Divine dispensations due to lack of in-depth knowledge. And hence our inappropriate emotional reactions.

3:90 says that the person did not return to the right path and settle down to mend his ways, and make amends to his sins, reform himself, and to remain steadfast in the right path, unlike the person referred to in 3:89.

Instead, he went on increasing in his arrogant denial of Truth.

As for 4:137, it is about hardened hypocrites, who, after wavering for some time, took the path of no return.

Much before 3:90, we have the warning to the believers not to befriend the infidels (3:28).

It were the hypocrites who used befriend the infidels and conspired with them against the believers.

Here, soon after 4:137, they are specified as hypocrites (4:138), who transgress 3:28 with impunity (4:149).

All this is summed up in Sura Al Munafqoon thus: "... That is because they believed, then disbelieved, therefore their hearts are sealed, so they understand not." (63:3)

Q: My question is about this verse (45:23) i want to know who it is referring to.

45:23 seems to refer to 2:6,7 - those who will not believe, warning, or no warning.

Q: Do people who suffer from (unlawful) addictions take their desires as God. Can they be considered as Mushriks. For example can someone who is heavily addicted to cannabis or pornography be deemed as kafirs.

After all, it is to warn all those who are slaves to passions, lusts, etc. - in fact, slaves to Satan (36:60,61) who is clearly, Man's enemy - and thus neglect the Hereafter, that God sent his Prophets.

The very first Commandment - the standing Commandment throughout all ages - is: Laa Thushrikoo Bihi Shaiaa (6:151).

Our standing Covenant with God is: Iyyaka Na'budu Wa Iyyaka Nastha'een (1:4)

The word Shaiaa ("anything") in 6:151 is significant, in that, it prohibits Shirk altogether!

Join not anything with him... (6:151).

"Anything" will mean whatsoever, and howsoever.

It may be that people addicted to cannabis and pornography are reformable.

But a Mu'min can never ever be complacent regarding such things.

According to Lane's Lexicon, 'sanathan' may also mean a quarter. That is to say, one of the four seasons of the year.

'Alf sana'' will then mean 250 years.

Minus 50, it is 200.

If 'thousand' is taken to mean only an especially long period, it would have been just that he lived to an exceptionally long period - quite reasonably, more than a century.

In 18:67-68, the servant of Allah categorically states that Moses will not be able to bear with him, because he (Moses) will be witnessing things that are beyond his (Moses') knowledge and experience.

But since Moses was full of enthusiasm as regards seeking knowledge from that servant of God, he could not but express the hope that God may still fulfill his wish to know (something) from the servant of God.

And so his reply as in 18:69.

But the servant of God's prediction came true, as that was what God willed.

All things that are khabees are forbidden to be eaten. It is the opposite of thayyib.

I pointed out AUT only to show, that the number of things used as medicine is mind-boggling.

Nobody (in the mainstream), especially a Mo'min, eats or drinks things that are khabees (unwholesome).

I only sited blood cancer as an example of an intractable disease, and the desperate methods adopted.

It is hoped that Allah will forgive the prescriber and the user.

I am not talking about a so called Islamic State.

Self improvement, and bidding good and forbidding evil is what is fundamental..

That is what leads (slowly but steadily), to a society which lives a thoroughly moral life, Umar, or no Umar.
