Dear brother Joseph, Peace be on you,

I am aware that very much debate(s) has already taken place with respect to Fast timings.

Without doubt, it is mentioned in Quran 2:187 part:

“And eat (wakulu) and drink (wa-ish'rabu) until (ḥatta) becomes distinct (yatabayyana) to you (lakumu) the thread (l-khayṭu) white (l-abyaḍu) from (mina) the thread (l-khayṭi) black (l-aswadi) of (mina) dawn (l-fajri). Then (thumma) complete (atimmu) the fast (l-ṣiyama) till (ila) the night (al-layli).”

“the thread white from the thread black OF DAWN”...”..till THE NIGHT.”

I personally understand it when Nautical Dawn starts (when we are able to distinguish the thread white from the thread black of DAWN) until the time Astronomical Dusk ends (when NIGHT starts).

[Please correct me if my personal understanding is incorrect.]

A comment I received from one of my friends is:

Quote
“I think there is a contradiction in translation because Allah words is beyond time and space”.

And he shared an image with a description (not attested) of port city Murmansk, located extreme northwest part of Russia where Religious Scholars and experts in Islamic jurisprudence have agreed to 20 hours fasting as there is no night in summers or no day in winters.

Al Azhar Mosque in Cairo, has ruled that Muslims should not fast for more than 18 hours a day. [1]

Yet another group of scholars suggests fasting for 12 hours irrespective of the time of year, because an average day offers 12 hours of sunlight.[1]

Please share with me your kind view(s) on how a person can fast with respect to 2:187 where there is no night or day.

May peace be on you dear Waqas,

On the link you have provided there is an:

Offline version of Project Root List: concordance, grammar, dictionary in one (simple program, small ZIP file)
http://ompldr.org/vODZzdA

The above program file contains the reference with each root from Lane's Lexicon. I have mentioned the same here :).

Dear brother Joseph,

Thank you for clarification.

Peace.

General Discussions / The triliteral root "Ayn Shiin Ra" (ع ش ر)
« on: January 16, 2013, 11:19:00 AM »
Peace be on you dear Joseph,

The subject root of the word "Ashara" has been translated as

2:34 "ten"
2:60 "twelve"
9:36 "twelve"
12:4 "eleven"
74:30 "nineteen"

And when looked up in the Lane's lexicon [1]:

Ayn-Shiin-Ra = to take away a tenth part, make ten by adding one to nine, be the tenth. ashrun/asharun (f.), asharatun/ashratun (m.): ten, decade, period from three to ten. After twenty there is no difference between feminine and masculine. ashara - to consort, live with, cultivate one's society, become familiar. ashirun - companion, ashiratun - kindred, ma'sharun - company, race, multitude, who live in close communion with (pl. ashair).

ashir n.m. 22:13

ashirah n.f. 9:24, 26:214, 58:22

ashr n.m. (num. f. asharah) 2:196, 2:234, 5:89, 6:160, 7:142, 11:13, 20:103, 28:27, 89:2

ishar n.f. (pl. of ushra) 81:4

ishrun n.m. num. 8:65

ma'shar n.m. 6:128, 6:130, 55:33

mi'shar n.m. num. 34:45

ashara vb. (3) impv. 4:19

In your opinion, is it appropriate to use "Ayn Shiin Ra: ten" as "eleven", "twelve", "nineteen" as translated in various translations [2]?

Dear Brother Joseph,

Peace be on you, Hope you are in good health.  There are two questions and two recommendations where I would really want your views:

Question 1:

This is with reference to

http://quransmessage.com/forum/index.php?topic=87.0

In your respected view how would you answer to the following question:

What is the purpose of a resurrection and Day of Judgement if we only 'face His law of just recompense' and 'As you sow, so shall you reap'? It sounds like the results of doing bad deeds will be your punishment and the results of your good deeds will be your rewards. You are paying/rewarded in this life based on Gods laws of just recompense. what is the purpose of an additional day of judgement?

Question 2:

Are you familiar with any on line tool whereby we can search one Arabic root word meaning in all the lexicons something like Consolidation of Lexicons?

Recommendation 1:

It is highly recommended that we develop a mobile app of the entire Quransmessage.com that supports Android, iOS, BlackBerry, HP webOS, Symbian OS, Bada from Samsung, and Windows Mobile.

Recommendation 2:

Please and if possible after careful cross analysis will you be developing a translation of the Quran covering the authorities work and presenting the best meanings possible (39:18) for ages to come, God willing.

Important Note: We can use http://asana.com/ for task management if global volunteers are required

Sincerely,

Your brother in faith,

Peace be on you Adil,

Scrolling down your message noticed that you have mentioned in the signature:

'I must strive for reformation of myself and the world'

Well I might have overlooked but while reading about different societies working in South Asia I came across the above tag line of  Jamaat Ahle Sunnat which is a prominent religious organization in Pakistan that represents the Barelvi movement of Sunni Islam.

I might have misunderstood but please let us know whether you are in any way associated with the Jamaat Ahle Sunnat Pakistan.

In January 2011, scholars from the same organization advised Muslims not to attend the funeral of Salmaan Taseer, the Punjab governor who had been assassinated in response to his outspoken beliefs against blasphemy laws. [1]

If however you are associated please go through the following enlightening article

DEATH PENALTY FOR BLASPHEMY
http://quransmessage.com/articles/blasphemy%20FM3.htm

It might help, God willing.

Regards

P.S. Please don't mind me asking.

General Discussions / Society for spreading faith - Tablighi Jamaat
« on: November 27, 2012, 03:11:03 AM »
Dear brother Joseph, Peace be on you

Background:

Tablighi Jamaat is a religious movement which was founded in 1926 by Muhammad Ilyas al-Kandhlawi in India.[1]

The movement primarily aims at Tablighi spiritual reformation by working at the grass roots level, reaching out to Muslims across all social and economic spectra to bring them closer to Islam.

The emergence of Tablighi Jamaat represented the intensification of individual reformation aspects of the original Deobandi movement. It was also a continuation of the broader trend of Islamic revival in India in the wake of the collapse of Muslim political power and the consolidation of the British rule.

The emergence of Tablighi Jamaat also coincided closely with the rise of various Hindu proselytizing movements which launched massive efforts in the early twentieth century to reconvert Hindus who had converted to Islam and Christianity. [2]

Question:

The following verse is widely used not only by the Tablighi Jamaat but all others who flag to enjoin right and forbid wrong when asked why are you doing the way you are doing this in the name of God:

3:104
And let there be among you [a] people inviting to the good [and] enjoining the right, and forbidding from the wrong, and those - they (are) the successful ones.

The practices however are not even approved by senior scholars of Islamic Secondary Sources but still are done in the name of God. Please share with us the wisdom behind 3:104 and if possible or already have please share a detail article on these societies that exist not only in Muslim communities but in others too.

Peace be on you dear brother Joseph,

Please elaborate on the subject part of the following verse:

33:53 part

“O you who believe! Enter not the Prophet's houses,- until leave is given you for a meal, (and then) not (so early as) to wait for its preparation: but when you are invited, enter; and when you have taken your meal, disperse, without seeking familiar talk (Arabic: liḥadīthin). Such (behaviour) annoys the Prophet: he is ashamed to dismiss you, but God is not ashamed (to tell you) the truth..."

Is it indicating to companions of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be on him) to avoid seeking "hadith" that are used today in context of following the prophet?

Peace be on you Dear Joseph,

Many people assert belongings of prophet Muhammad (Peace be on him) like Shoe, Sandals, Cloak etc and praise and thanks God with those images.

Are you aware of any research done on these things that people think belong to Prophet?

I feel those people who share such things simply put behind the Message that Prophet was inspired with (Quran) and place it behind their bewildered array of wishes.
