General Discussions / question about verse 24/2
« on: June 16, 2016, 09:36:15 PM »
24:2
YUSUF ALI
"The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment."

Is this punishment only for Muslims or for non believers too?

Women / Re: Alkhimar Hiding Muslim women's hair & bossom
« on: July 22, 2015, 02:37:18 AM »
I personally feel that the verses main point of the verse is modesty and covering the chest. God does not tell us to directly that women must cover their head, and I believe we can't justify it from that. The Quran's main audience where the Arabs during the Prophet's time, the head-coverings were a means to an end, which was covering the chest, so if people can do that through some other way, I do not see the problem in that. Brother Joseph here points out that the arabic for 'head-covering' can mean 'anything by which a thing is veiled or covered'.

General Discussions / Why different names of prophets in the Quran?
« on: July 16, 2015, 06:20:33 PM »
I recently had a discussion with a family member who says that Isa the is true name of Jesus, as are the actual arabic names of the other prophets. Is this true? If not why are their names different from previous scripture?

General Discussions / Fornicator or adulterer?
« on: April 19, 2015, 12:21:25 AM »
In verse 24:2 I have read translations that say fornicator, and others say adulters  or both.

"Pickthall: The adulterer and the adulteress,......"

"Yusuf Ali: The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,....."

"Shakir: (As for) the fornicatress and the fornicator, ....."

So what does the actual arabic word mean?

Women / Re: What a woman can reveal.

Those two verses seem to be mutually exclusive and deal with two very different things. If these were connected , wouldn't it mean that showing your neck or you ears would be wrong? And if I am not mistaken Arabs have to cover their heads and arms to protect themselves from the heat then and even now. So to say that those parts of their bodies were not covered might be incorrect. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

General Discussions / Re: Good and Evil in relation with God

I do not mean the act of doing good or evil , but the nature of good and evil it self.

Does good and evil both come from God? Is God good by nature or has he chosen to uphold good over evil. Does the evil that come from man also come from God as the good does?

Islamic Duties / Re: Some clarification on halal food.
« on: April 08, 2015, 04:54:02 PM »
Ok, but what about about animals where no God's name has been invoked upon.

5:3
Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah

Is this verse banning only meat which other gods name have been invoked, or banning all meat which doesn't  have Allah's name invoked on it?

Islamic Duties / Some clarification on halal food.
« on: April 08, 2015, 01:18:17 AM »
I understand that livestock must be slaughtered in a lawful way but is it Haram if God's name is not proclaimed over it? Like if no name was proclaimed over it?

And if one lives in a non Muslim area, were finding meat like that would be impossible or very difficult to manage , is one allowed to make due with what is available ?

I personally believe that people are only meant to live and die on Earth, as our system is a very earth centric one. My question was based on a "what if" situation, as some people do claim that mars is possibly habitable.

We all pray facing the Kaba , and making pilgrimage to Meccah is one of our duties. Wouldn't living in another planet make these things impossible?

Ah now that I read it it seems a lot like a rant. What I mostly want to know, is that has the Quran-centric approach been adopted by any community, and if so, how was it brought about, because it seems very hard to change peoples views.
