General Discussions / Is 5:97 referring to Dhil Hajja?
« on: July 12, 2018, 03:12:05 PM »
Salaamun Alayka,
Dear Sir Joseph,

Is 5:97 referring to Dhil Hajja? Most of the translations is singular for waalshshahra alharama and some taking it plural for sacred months, so my question to you specifically given your ardent academic research and language fluency:

Is waalshshahra alharama - singular or plural?
If singular, then is traditional Muslims are right in reducing the 4 months to single dhil Hajj by sanction of this ayah?
Or this month is still one of four and need not pin pointing specific one?

Anticipating your clarification with much thanks and gratitude :)

Salamun Alaykum,

Came across some clips that shows Simpsons cartoon series has made some allusions to events long before they happened in real life including 911.

Any thoughts?

General Discussions / What is Yusala in 13:21?
« on: June 15, 2018, 04:49:53 AM »
Salaamun Alayka,
Dear Sir Joseph,

What is Yusala in 13:21? Most interpret it as joining family ties/kinship, are they correct? If not what's your understanding? This one being Amrullah and twinned with God's covenant, I'm wondering if there's more or perhaps something completely different?

General Discussions / Miqat in 7:142
« on: May 30, 2018, 01:45:36 PM »
Salaamun Alayka,
Sir Joseph,

What is Miqat in the ayah 7:142 - I'm having trouble grasping it, appointed 40 (30+10) nights and then 7:143 begins saying when Musa AS came to the appointed time (40 nights??).
Was he instructed to
  • worship in solitude for 40 nights before the meeting
  • or was he with God for 40 nights
  • or something else?
  Your explanation is greatly appreciated.

General Discussions / Is marriage enjoined on adult believers?
« on: May 22, 2018, 09:20:21 AM »
Salaamun Alaykum,

Ramadan Mubarak to all.

I've searched the whole forum (and articles) but couldn't find a thread involving Sir Joseph Islam view/thought on someone raising or addressing this question:

Is marriage enjoined on adult (able and potent) believers by the Quran in the ayah 24:32?

I find these two threads raising exact same question but no input from Sir Joseph:

Sir Joseph,

I really appreciate if you could spare few minutes and share your thoughts on this question?

General Discussions / Article: Are Mutashabih Verses Allegorical?
« on: February 20, 2018, 11:54:57 AM »
Salaamun Alayka,
Sir Joseph,

Hope you're keeping well, inshallah  :)

I came across the book, New Approach to the Study of the Qur’an, By: Dr. Hasanuddin Ahmed, I.A.S.

http://www.netnavigate.com/hasan/newapproach/ch5.html

Point #11 of chapter 5 (in the above link) basically challenges your understanding and interpretation of 3:7 (and so your article: Are Mutashabih Verses Allegorical?) and presented cogent and diametrically opposite to your view, in my humble opinion. I've read all your posts related to 3:7 on the forum and nowhere anyone raised this aspect/possibility of interpreting 3:7 which the author of the book has presented.

The question the author (Dr. Ahmed) raised answer to exact same question sought from you also but went unanswered in one of the relevant thread:

Quote
Assuming your explanation, pursuing mutashabihat verses is prohibited according to Quran is true, it will create another issue.  It will create a need to have a list of mutashabihat verses to avoid committing a wrong and disobeying Allah’s command.   Is there any list mutashabihat verses as such?

http://quransmessage.com/forum/index.php?topic=762.msg2834#msg2834

So, I would request (greatly respecting your time) your counter argument in refuting his interpretation in defense of your article. Kindly give due consideration as you yourself subscribe to this division of Quran which means that part of the Quran is/has been kept off limits and not knowing clearly which (subjective) :-\ is even more distressing.

with warm regards,

I heard in one of the Nouman Ali Khan's discourse that the letter و "waw" carries at least 21 meanings. Any reference(s) would be greatly appreciated.

Q&As with Joseph Islam - Information Only / Sadaqah & Zakat
« on: January 07, 2018, 10:24:06 AM »
Salaamun Alayka,
Sir Joseph,

Hope you're keeping well. Although I've read your all your articles including "The concept of Sadaqah & Zakah" couple of years ago, I revisited them last night after a (traditionalist) WhatsApp message triggered a discussion on exclusion of Syed family from Zakat funds, and noticed you did not make use of 2:219 or even cite it in either of these articles, and you've made a passing reference only 3 times in all your QM Forum posts - was it a overlook? Doesn't 2:219 alluding/seems to answer oft repeated question raised on the Quran on %age of Zakah?

Also, you've rightly distinguished between Zakah and Sadaqah but it appear your interpretation of this act as voluntary charity while 9:60 clearly made use of the words فَرِيضَةً مِّنَ اللَّهِ - Did I misread or misunderstood your position on the subject?

Your clarification is much appreciated, Jazak Allah khair in anticipation  :)

Dear QM moderator team,

I noticed surprisingly that all the external face book posts aren't working from QM FB tabular page. Is there something wrong or has something changed with the way the redirection is made or all of them expired and deleted from all these individual FB's profile?

Your investigation and possible restoration is really appreciated.

General Discussions / 33:37 interpretation
« on: August 29, 2017, 07:34:07 AM »
Salaamun alaykum,

Is Dr. Shabbir correct in his assertion about 33:37 interpretation:

Quote
Behold, (O Prophet) you did tell the one to whom Allah had shown Favor and to whom you had shown favor, "Hold on to your wife and be mindful of Allah. You seek to conceal in your heart what Allah intends to reveal. You are afraid of people whereas it is more appropriate to fear Allah." But when Zayd had observed all the rules and divorced her, We gave her to you in marriage. So that henceforth there may be no blame on the believers in respect of spouses of their adopted children when they have come to the dissolution of their union. And the Commandment of Allah must be fulfilled. (Contrary to many erroneous translations, the entire quote in this verse is addressed to Zayd since Messengers fear none but Allah (33:39). Also the admonition of the Prophet to Zayd clearly indicates that he, and not his wife, was at fault)

In other words, did he got the quotes right (red text)? If not, what part of the sentence is Zayd addressee and what part is towards the Prophet (pbuh)? The correct demarcation.

Thanks,

General Discussions / Understanding 66:4
« on: January 16, 2017, 05:48:53 AM »
Salaamun Alaykum,

Does anyone know if Sir Joseph Islam discussed/elaborate 66:4, my search failed to find relevant discussion although I found couple of threads on previous ayah 66:3 but nothing on 66:4.

[Say, O Prophet:] "Would that you two turn unto God in repentance, for the hearts of both of you have swerved [from what is right]! And if you uphold each other against him [who is God's message-bearer, know that] God Himself is his Protector, and [that,] therefore, Gabriel, and all the righteous among the believers and all the [other] angels will come to his aid."

My question in attempting to grasp the full picture/context of the discussion - why the wives of the Prophet (pbut) were sternly warned/reminded with reinforcement and support by Allah swt, Jibrael AS, Believers and Angels - all together (unimaginable power pack) against just two naturally/physically weak women for seemingly petty and domestic issue?

Islamic Duties / Juma vs Zuhr
« on: November 06, 2016, 06:40:20 AM »
Salaam,

Does anyone know any discussion or good Quran based resource on the differences between Juma and Zuhr prayer. Traditional Islam impose lot of conditions depending on School's jurisprudence for Salat Juma to become Wajib. Any differences we glean from Quran between these two prayers when only one is possible on Friday?
